Position Overview
The Calibration Lab Metrologist intern will gain industry experience in developing, executing, and documenting calibration methods, preventative maintenance, and other necessary maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment. This position is intended to be a full-time opportunity for an undergraduate to obtain hands-on experience in a metrological field and gain an understanding of deriving uncertainty evaluation and analysis for measurement standards and associated measurement processes in accordance with the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM).

Essential Duties
- With support from Metrologist and leadership, assist with deriving measurement uncertainty and analysis for measurement standards and processes.
- Develop Metrology procedures and techniques based on the principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision requirements.
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of ISO 17025 Quality Management System.
- Write, review, and execute installation, operational, and performance qualification protocols for new and existing equipment.
- Analyze current calibration procedures and identify improvements to ensure they meet the needs of the organization and comply with all relevant regulations.
- Prepare quality records and metrics as directed.
- Perform troubleshooting activities and repair instruments and equipment to service specifications.
- Complete and submit accurate and detailed service records. Track all service activities and ensure documentation is complete, timely, and accurate.
- Perform all service activities in compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory bodies (OSHA, ISO, FDA).
- Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
- Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures.
- Ability to work designated schedule (full-time, on-site for 12 consecutive weeks around June-Sept).
Essential Skills:
- Must have a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to use troubleshooting skills to help identify and diagnose testing failure.
- Understanding of electrical circuits and diagrams, including use of common electrical measurement tools such as multi-meters and oscilloscope.
- Understanding of mechanical parts and assembly drawings.
- Must be highly organized and able to produce high quality work as a part of a team.
- Excellent organization and communication skills both written and verbal.
- Physical requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for up to 10% of a typical working day.
- Repetitive movement of hands and fingers while working with computers or instruments.
- Ability to work seated for up to 75% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for up to 75% of a typical working day.
- Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
- Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment towards a bachelor's degree in engineering, Science, or related technical fields including Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Applied Sciences, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Sciences.
- Computer proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel.
- Strong documentation skills and attention to detail necessary.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the position's Essential Duties with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Record of outstanding academic achievement.
- Strong statistical analysis skills are desired.
- Knowledge of metrological traceability
- Experience in a cGMP environment.
- Database management experience; preferably experience developing continuous improvements to database management procedures/processes.
Salary Range:
$34,000.00 - $54,000.00
The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis.
