Do you enjoy surfacing insights through data that could have an impact on K-12 student education? Do you have a strong attention to detail that allows you to examine data in a way no one else can? This internship with the Research Department will enable data-driven decision making for a variety of departments that support students, teachers, and product development. The Quantitative Research Intern will be responsible for assisting researchers with strategic analyses, data visualization, and reports on a variety of K-12 content areas. Because data never arrives in perfect form, this intern will be ready to rise to the challenge of translating data into derivable insights.This role is a great opportunity for those looking to gain experience in conducting research, education technology, learning analytics, psychometrics, impact measurement, product analytics, and program evaluation. This is a part time role (around 20 hours a week) and will be a summer internship (from around June 1 to late August).

Responsibilities

  • Use R and/or SPSS to independently merge, clean, manipulate, and quantitatively analyze large survey, assessment, and platform activity datasets using frequentist statistical methods
  • Conduct Factor Analysis, Hierarchical Linear Modeling, Regressions, and ANCOVA when appropriate
  • Use Google slides to create and present both narrative and visual representations of the data analyses to the team
  • Conduct literature reviews when required for team projects
  • Source validated surveys from research when required for student measurement within courses, where available
  • Attend weekly team meetings
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a Master’s or Doctoral program that had a strong quantitative focus
  • At least two years of experience independently merging, cleaning, and analyzing data; can be from graduate work, research/lab experience.
  • Experience using R and/or SPSS for statistical analysis and data visualization
  • Experience conducting Factor Analysis, Hierarchical Linear Modeling, Regressions, and ANCOVA
  • Some experience with data manipulation via SQL and/or PowerQuery
  • Some experience with fundamental psychometric analyses (i.e. reliability)
  • Preferred (but not required) experience conducting Rasch Modeling or IRT analyses
  • Preferred (but not required) experience with Tableau
  • Strong data visualization skills.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft and Google suite (specifically Excel and Google Slides)
  • Some experience translating data stories and results to a lay audience
  • A desire to contribute to a growing area of K-12 education and be on a team passionate about the digital learning space
