Senior Staff APIGEE Platform Engineer
Job Summary
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Apigee Platform Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining API management solutions using Google Cloud's Apigee platform. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our APIs are secure, scalable, and performant.
Responsibilities
Design & Development
- Architect and develop API proxies and policies using Apigee Edge
- Design and implement API management strategies including security, analytics, and monitoring
- Develop custom policies using JavaScript, Python, Java, or Node.js where needed
- Lead Capacity Planning and Management activities to ensure that the Apigee platform will be able to handle additional transactions in the future
API Management
- Manage the full API lifecycle, including API publishing, consumption, and retirement
- Implement API security, including OAuth, JWT, SAML, and other authentication methods
- Monitor API performance and troubleshoot issues using Apigee tools and analytics
Integration & Automation
- Integrate Apigee with various backend services, databases, and third-party systems
- Automate API deployment and testing using CI/CD pipelines
- Ensure APIs are compliant with organisational standards and best practices
Collaboration
- Work closely with application development teams to ensure APIs meet business and technical requirements
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to ensure the stability and scalability of the API platform
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers
Maintenance & Support
- Regularly review and optimize API performance
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for production APIs
- Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in API management and Apigee
- Lead DR exercises to ensure that the team are fully prepared in the event of a catastrophe
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
Experience
- 8+ years of experience in API management and development
- Extensive experience with Apigee Edge (or Apigee X) in designing, developing, and managing APIs
- Strong knowledge of RESTful API design principles and best practices
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS) is a plus
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, or Node.js
- Experience with API security protocols like OAuth, JWT, and API key management
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Knowledge of API analytics, logging, and monitoring tools
- Experience with APIGEE Edge, Developer portal and APIGEE Baas
- Knowledge of existing API Testing Tools (Postman, SoapUI, or any equivalent tools)
- Knowledge of flow/Web hooks, Virtual hosts and TLS configuration
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
