Senior Accountant - CAPEX

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant - CapEx is accountable for day-to-day oversight of the company's construction and project accounting, as well as supporting both internal and external audit requests. This includes ownership of the related internal controls. The position is also responsible for evaluating current processes as well as developing and implementing improvements to take advantage of the Oracle system and fixed asset accounting best practices.

The Senior Accountant - CapEx reports to the Senior Manager of CapEx Accounting. The position will work closely with other functional areas in the Global Controllership Organization (GL and other Capex functional teams) and will support and partner with Data Center Operations, IT, Product and CTO organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Own the global construction in progress (CIP) accounting, SaaS project accounting and internal cost capitalization processes
  • Ensure all CIP accounting activities are completed timely and accurately on a monthly basis
  • Review and approve work performed by staff, including but not limited to, journal entries, account reconciliations, analysis and financial reports
  • Continuously automate, streamline and improve CIP accounting processes
  • Effectively balance workloads and assignments
  • Ensure controls are in place and company assets are safeguarded. Overall SOX owner of CIP processes related to internal cost capitalization
  • Partner with Ops Finance, FP&A and other business partners as necessary, to continuously identify new internal cost capitalization opportunities and operationalize the capitalization, while also keeping processes scalable
  • Ensure the integrity of key processes by understanding systems, flow of transactions, internal controls and work with business partners to help define efficiency and effectiveness improvements
  • Represent Capex accounting in projects/reviews
  • Understand relevant company accounting policies and procedures and has the ability to interpret these to make quick decisions and provide guidance
  • Manage ad-hoc projects and requests for data and analysis from business partners

Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in accounting preferred
  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA / MBA preferred
  • Strong use of ERP / Accounting systems. Knowledge of Oracle Cloud and Hyperion preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • A strong working knowledge of GAAP & Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to work well within a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Independent worker and analytical thinker with ability to conduct research, data analysis and resolve complex problems
  • Flexibility to adjust to workload and hours when necessary
  • Demonstrates highest standards of personal and professional integrity, adheres to company's policies and procedures, and complies with applicable laws, government rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to solve a wide range of complex accounting issues
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to travel occasionally (one or twice a year)
