As a Senior Capacity Engineer in the APAC Capacity Engineering team this newly created headcount will be crucial as our Global Capacity expands and plays an ever-increasingly important role within Equinix Operations.

The Capacity Engineer, Senior Staff is a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of data management, design and design drawings for installations within a diverse scope. This is a highly collaborative position, but you will take ownership of data analysis, ensuring all data sets are verified for accuracy to maintain consistency and integrity.

Being able to spot data inaccuracies and make relevant changes, escalations or recommendations will be key in the role, this done by working with various internal and external stakeholders including sales and site engineers, colleagues based throughout APAC.

Whilst training and support is afforded, we are looking for a proven self-starter to be able to adjust to the role quickly and adapt to daily and ongoing challenges. This is an individual contributor role for an established capacity engineer although experience in helping mentor and develop junior colleagues will also be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

Engineering, Space Planning & Design:

• Creates various/experienced Cage-Cabinet design options that respond to customer requirements, Equinix Requirements and physical site constraints within a diverse scope

• Prepares notional Cage-Cabinet layouts, area calculations and diagrams for each individual data center and specializes in more complex, larger sites

• Maximizes space utilization to develop the best design solution for the data centre and the customer.

• Utilizes experienced knowledge of electrical/mechanical infrastructure to notionally attribute complex Cage-Cabinet designs against data centre infrastructure within a diverse scope

• Participates in high-density review cases, seeking opinions of SME's or local sites where\

• Performs the validation and updating of data centre infrastructure data within capacity systems in a diverse scope

• Identifies issues or constraints in infrastructure capacity and may prepare notional solutions for review by management

Data & Drawing Management

• Works with site operations to address discrepancies with documentation of facility infrastructure and installation of customer cages

• Ensures all CAD drawings and capacity systems correctly represent existing status of the data centre, identifying and making necessary adjustments

• Produces drawings and space plans for use by Sales, Site Operation and other teams, Identifies and leads the investigation of experienced data issues without support

• Creates diverse spatial layouts of each customer cage which are used by the other capacity teams for their reviews, and by the Sales Engineers and site teams for customer installations

• Drawing and inventory preparation, which may be reviewed by manager

• Creates numbering plans for new sites, compiling inventory list, and preparing the drawings files used to track assignments

• Compiles as-built underground utility drawings as required to create a comprehensive record drawing for each site within a diverse scope

Collaboration

• Collaborates with various teams to identify any power/cooling issues that affect space capacity, and answers experienced inventory-related questions from cross-functional departments

• Ability to engage and gather input from appropriate stakeholders to reach the right solution for the company and the customer within a diverse scope

• Where planning decisions are in dispute between sales and operational needs, the engineer is expected to escalate to the right level

• Coordinates with various departments for the monthly reporting of capacity trends, availability and accuracy of records for the site

Capacity Feasibility & Optimization

• Works with Capacity and/or site engineers to identify power and cooling limitations, discuss potential modifications, and develop experienced solutioning

• Acts as the first point of contact for the CFR process to ensure that space is being assigned maximizes the value of our data centers by optimizing the efficiency of our space within a diverse scope

Qualifications, key skills and attributes:

• Engineering or Data Analysis related Degree qualified (or Trade Certified)

• Willingness or deep understanding of our Equinix infrastructure

• Previous capacity related experience in data centers, space, retail, logistics or industry with transferrable skills and knowledge

• Ability to solves concurrent, complex, cross-functional issues that span multiple internal groups

• Understands when and to whom to escalate, but tries to solve problem first

• May act to support or lead junior engineers as well as taken on additional or varied duties outside regular job scope

• Excel, CAD, Tableau, Maximo experience highly regarded
