The Government and Public Affairs Director is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with elected officials, legislative staff, Executive agencies and other government officials. This position also assists with developing and executing corporate strategies to advocate for public policies on behalf of the company. This position leads analysis of proposed legislative actions, works with internal stakeholders to determine the potential impact on the organization and develops appropriate responses. This position also monitors legislative and regulatory activities, committee reports, and promotes company market position.

This position is located in Washington D.C.

Enterprise offers an excellent benefits package with market-competitive pay, comprehensive healthcare packages, 401k matching & profit sharing, schedule flexibility, paid time off, and organizational growth potential.

The anticipated pay for this position is $209,000 to $272,000. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

Responsibilities

  • Review and summarize proposed federal legislation and regulatory issues for potential impact
  • Communicate significant federal legislation and regulation to various levels of management for review and coordinating responses
  • Assist in the development of strategies to address federal issues and implementing those strategies
  • Establish and maintain effective networks and coalitions on both sides of the political aisle
  • Serve as the primary liaison with industry trade associations, as well as trade groups of related industries
  • Interact directly with governmental officials at all levels, including members of Congress and the Executive Branch
  • Assist with the management of contract lobbyists operating in Washington DC
  • Analyze federal legislative trends to recommend company actions and next steps to address these issues effectively
  • Analyze proposed government and legislative actions as to their actual or prospective impact on the transportation (car and truck rental, sales, leasing, sharing) industry and guiding company departments in developing company positions
  • Assist in formulating and effectively communicating company positions on issues to appropriate stakeholders
  • Maintain files of federal legislation and regulatory activities
  • Cultivate relationships and maintains communications with key, diverse stakeholders throughout Washington DC that support the Enterprise Mobility agenda
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase awareness and recognition of Enterprise Mobility as a responsible corporate leader
  • Develop strategic giving from the company's Political Action Committee (PAC)
  • Attend and periodically host political fundraisers on behalf of the PAC
  • Assist with state government and public affairs activities and representing the company at national and regional events
  • Seek to improve job performance through self-assessment, skill development, training, and goal setting
  • Maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance and punctuality
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree
  • Must have eight (8+) or more years of experience with government relations, political or public relations
  • Must have direct experience working with the federal legislative process
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future
  • Must currently reside in the Washington DC metropolitan area

Preferred:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD)
  • Direct or indirect experience dealing with car rental, automotive, sharing economy or property and casualty insurance industries
  • Direct or indirect experience working with the following committees: House Energy & Commerce; House Transportation and Infrastructure; House Ways & Means, Senate Commerce, Science & Transportation; Senate Environment and Public Works, Senate Finance
