As a key member of the Enovis Indirect Procurement Team you will play an integral part in helping Enovis drive the medical technology industry forward through transforming patient care and creating better patient outcomes.

Job Title/High Level Position Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Packaging Commodity Lead to oversee the sourcing, execution, and management of packaging solutions for orthopedic implants. This role is critical in ensuring that our products are securely and efficiently packaged to meet the unique needs of the healthcare and medical device industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in packaging materials, regulatory compliance, and supply chain management, with a focus on delivering innovative and cost-effective packaging solutions that meet quality, safety, and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management:
    Lead the selection, negotiation, and management of packaging suppliers for orthopedic implants, including sterile packaging, custom trays, boxes, and other specialized packaging materials. Develop long-term relationships with suppliers to ensure product quality, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Cost Optimization & Budget Management:
    Implement strategies to optimize packaging costs without compromising product safety or compliance. Negotiate pricing agreements, conduct cost analyses, and track spending to ensure packaging stays within budget while meeting all regulatory and performance standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety Standards:
    Ensure all packaging for orthopedic implants complies with FDA, ISO, and other applicable regulatory requirements. This includes ensuring proper sterilization methods, tamper-evident packaging, and adherence to health and safety standards. Stay current on changing regulations and packaging best practices in the medical device industry.
  • Packaging Innovation & Sustainability:
    Champion sustainability in packaging by researching and introducing innovative, eco-friendly materials and solutions. Lead initiatives to reduce packaging waste, optimize recyclability, and explore alternative materials that are both effective and environmentally responsible.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    Work closely with the Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to ensure that packaging designs align with product specifications, logistical needs, and end-user requirements. Collaborate to ensure that packaging supports safe and efficient shipping, handling, and storage of orthopedic implants.
  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
    Track the performance of packaging solutions, including metrics such as cost reduction, product protection, sterility maintenance, and customer satisfaction. Provide regular reports and updates to senior leadership on packaging performance and improvement initiatives.
  • Market Intelligence & Trend Analysis:
    Stay informed on market trends, new packaging technologies, and material innovations relevant to orthopedic implants. Analyze competitor packaging practices and propose new approaches or materials that could improve packaging efficiency, reduce costs, or enhance product performance.

Essential Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in packaging for the medical device industry healthcare industry, or other related field
  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials, sterilization methods, and regulatory standards specific to the medical device industry (e.g., FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485).
  • Proven experience in supplier management, contract negotiation, and cost management.
  • Familiarity with sterile packaging processes, including barrier properties, shelf-life considerations, and safety standards for implantable devices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, project management, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and with external partners.
  • Understanding of sustainability trends and initiatives within the medical packaging space.
  • Must be able to travel up to 1 week each month
  • Lead Quarterly Business Reviews to strengthen key partnerships

Minimum Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience in packaging
  • Knowledge of packaging materials, sterilization methods, and regulatory standards specific to the medical device industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or equivalent
  • Experience with packaging design and testing, including performance and stability testing of packaging for medical devices.
  • Knowledge of validation processes for packaging systems (e.g., ISTA testing, biocompatibility).
  • Six Sigma, Lean, or PMP certification is a plus.
