Position Overview: 
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Database Administrator with expertise in MySQL, MySQL Aurora, Redshift, AWS Cloud Services (Nice to have PostgreSQL and DynamoDB), and experience in database sharding. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing various database systems in production environments, familiarity with cloud-based database solutions, and proficiency in implementing sharding strategies. The lead DBA will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our diverse database infrastructure while providing leadership and guidance to the database administration team.

What you will do: 

  • Design, implement, and maintain MySQL, MySQL Aurora, Redshift, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB database schemas, tables, indexes, and relationships to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and reliability in AWS Cloud environments. 

  • Deploy and manage MySQL Aurora instances, RedShift, PostgreSQL instances, and DynamoDB tables for high availability, scalability, and performance. 

  • Configure and optimize Redshift clusters for data warehousing and analytics workloads, including data loading, query optimization, and performance tuning. 

  • Implement database sharding strategies to horizontally partition data across multiple shards for improved scalability and performance. 

  • Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies for various databases to ensure data integrity and availability in case of failures or disasters. 

  • Manage user access, permissions, and security policies for different databases to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. 

  • Design and implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions for different databases using AWS services such as Aurora Global Database, Multi-AZ deployments, and DynamoDB Global Tables. 

  • Lead and mentor a team of database administrators by providing technical guidance, support, and training. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, DevOps ,data engineers to design and optimize database solutions for various applications and workloads. 

  • Stay up-to-date with database technologies, AWS services, and industry trends to make recommendations for continuous improvement. 

  • Document database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides for knowledge sharing and reference. 

 

What you will bring: 

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with expertise in MySQL, MySQL Aurora, and Redshift 

  • In-depth knowledge of database architectures, replication, clustering, and performance optimization techniques for various database systems 

  • Hands-on experience with AWS Cloud services such as RDS, Aurora, Redshift, DynamoDB, EC2, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch 

  • Experience implementing database sharding techniques for horizontal partitioning of data across multiple shards 

  • Strong understanding of database security concepts including authentication, authorization, encryption, and compliance 

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues 

  • Experience leading and mentoring a team of DBAs 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams 

 

What will set you apart: 

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty) are a plus 

  • Experience with NoSQL, PostgreSQL and AWS Cloud services

Base Salary Range

$109,600.00 - $158,950.00

The salary range above shows the typical minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
