What you'll do:
The Senior Principal Data Scientist is a strategic role within our team, responsible for enhancing the functional excellence of the corporate technology office through advanced data analytics and insights. This position will report to the Chief Technology Officer of Digital Technologies and functionally report to the VP of Functional Excellence, ensuring data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Drive Functional Excellence Initiatives:
- Develop and maintain sophisticated dashboards and reports to monitor performance metrics and KPIs relevant to the technology office.
- Utilise advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to enhance technology processes and operations.
- Implement data-driven methodologies to achieve breakthrough results in operational efficiency.

2. Portfolio Intelligence and Analysis:
- Conduct comprehensive analyses of the company's product portfolio to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
- Perform strategic external benchmarking to evaluate the company's product and technology assets against competitors and industry leaders.
- Execute internal benchmarking to assess performance and innovation across various business units.
- Develop tools and methodologies for in-depth portfolio analysis, including patent analytics and technology trend assessments.
- Generate actionable insights and reports to inform product and technology strategy, innovation efforts, and competitive positioning.
3. Collaboration and Strategic Support:
- Collaborate with legal, R&D, and business development teams to support decision-making related to product and technology roadmaps.
- Identify and evaluate innovation opportunities within the product and technology portfolio to drive competitive advantage and market leadership.
- Provide intelligence, analysis, and reporting for annual profit planning and capital deployment to align with strategic objectives.
4. Data and Analytics Strategy Development:
- Define and execute a comprehensive data and analytics strategy for the company's engineering processes.
- Oversee the integration of data from various engineering systems to create a unified and accessible data environment.
- Implement advanced analytics and machine learning models to optimise engineering processes and product development.
- Ensure data quality, governance, and compliance within engineering systems.
- Provide training and support to engineering teams on data utilisation and analytics tools.
5. Continuous Improvement:
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to align data initiatives with engineering goals and drive continuous improvement across the organisation.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years Proven experience in data science, analytics, and statistical modelling.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or similar.
- Portfolio Intelligence benchmarking (internal / external) experience
- Expertise in machine learning techniques and data visualisation tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
