Eaton's Hengelo R&D Energy Saver System (ESS) organisation, part of Critical Systems Division, supporting innovative product developments for this business unit.
We are looking for a R&D Mechanical Design Engineer. You will be responsible for
design and technical tasks for the ESS product line. This involves development of new ESS switchgear products in line with customer requirements in the market of Energy Transition within IEC Assemblies. The design work has both mechanical and electrical power engineering aspects and involves 3D construction, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Robustness, Design to Cost.
We are looking for a pro-active person with strong technical skills, interest and ambition, who enjoys collaboration in a creative, open and transparent international environment. The engineer will interact close with our customers and translate their needs into a service product and/or solution.

What you'll do:
- Development of electro/mechanical designs for product/ retrofits/ updates/new functionalities. Provides 3D CAD design in line with design standards.
- Participating in communication with customers referring to specific project design assignments or meetings.
- Works according to a structured stage-gate process for the developments, applying Design for Six Sigma tools, such as Pugh Matrix, DFMEA's, DFA, Tolerance Studies, Error Proofing, P-Diagrams.
- Ensures components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry and business standards.
- Collaborates in multidisciplinary teams for identifying and tracking compliance to specification, for evaluating designs, manufacturability, serviceability, and product cost.
- Proactively identifies risks and look for solutions within the design including reaching out to peers and subject matter experts and validates new designs with calculations, evaluations, models, prototypes and testing.
- Coordinates physical testing on prototypes and leads design reviews and verification, modify design as necessary.
- Controls the release of parts and assemblies for production in cooperation with the production facility.
- Reinforces a Kaizen culture where change is part of the daily business
Qualifications:
- MSc / BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering and interest to design and making constructions.
- 1 - 3 years of experience as an Engineer in relevant business.
Skills:
- Basic knowledge of switchgear design and fabrication processes. Competent in working with 3D Design Software and general Microsoft Office tools.
- Design for Six Sigma Green belt certification (or ambition to achieve it)
- Team player and keen to learn new disciplines with digital mind, learning agility
- Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively.
- International travel occasionally.
- Good communication skills in English and Dutch language.
