What you'll do:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Eaton Corporation's Global Energy Infrastructure Solutions (GEIS) division is seeking a Product Engineer. This is a position that can be based in either Syracuse, NY or Highland, IL. The position will be responsible for New Product Innovation (NPI), Value Added / Value Engineer (VAVE) and Sustaining Engineering products that produce a high profit margin and greater value to our customers. Position will work cross-functionally with Marketing, Sales & Operations to develop and design products that will penetrate the national and international markets.

The position will allow you to demonstrate your ability to drive innovation from ideation through Six Sigma processes, identification of product adjacencies, identification, and execution of cost savings initiatives through VA/VE & product rationalization. The position will require you to be highly proficient in project management and documentation with the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel with enabling rapid development of new design concepts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Utilize manufacturing background to drive designs toward manufacturing capabilities
  • Create new product specifications
  • Develop and test protypes for new product ideas
  • Identify and execute cost out projects to drive Value Added Value Engineering (VAVE)
  • Maintain and upgrade existing products
  • Utilize manufacturing knowledge to uncover new opportunities
  • Assist with 3rd party certifications and develop and test prototypes for new product ideas as well as create product specifications
  • Partner with quality assurance to establish product quality standards consistent with the needs of the market
  • Create and maintain project development plans as well as create and execute Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
  • Utilize Phase-Gate process to manage projects
  • Participate in Voice of the Customer (VoC) product and requirements research

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of one internship/co-op experience
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without Company sponsorship now and in the future

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Prior experience working in product design and/or VAVE
  • Experience with 2D modeling/design
  • SolidWorks experience

POSITION CRITERIA

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Excel
  • Detail-oriented
  • Knowledge of SAP

Eaton provides a competitive total rewards package commensurate with applicable skills, knowledge, and experience and consistent with internal and external market practices. The salary for this is $78,000 a year, dependent on the work location and qualifications met. This position offers a one-time $6,000 signing bonus and relocation lump sum package.
