Eaton's IS VEH VGNA division is currently seeking a Packaging Engineer. This position is based at our Indianapolis, IN facility.

The Packaging Engineer will support the overall packaging strategy and implementation of project launches, implement cost savings, and manage quality and safety related projects. This position functions as the onsite packaging engineer for MGNA with focus on returnable packaging and cost savings.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $80250.03 - $117700.04 a year.

  • Oversee and manage complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing.
  • Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.
  • Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation. Evaluate and select packaging suppliers/vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously for multiple sites
  • Work closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing.
  • Participate in product introduction teams, to deliver new products to market.
  • Identify and implement cost savings related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage
  • Work closely with Engineering to optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
  • Specify and recommend efficiency tools and test methods to develop and validate packaging designs.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure that packaging exceeds customer specifications.
  • Manage annually packaging spend / budget ~$6M
  • Manage returnable packaging at all plant locations with cross functional team ~400k totes/ pallets / bins and 75 designs

Qualifications:

Required Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in packaging in an industrial and/or mechanical field
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship both now and in the future
  • No relocation is available for this position. Only candidates that reside within 50 miles of Indianapolis, IN will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Packaging Engineering Technology
  • Five (5) years experience or higher in packaging in an industrial and/or mechanical field

Skills:

  • Packaging material in returnable and expendable solutions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Problem solving skills, proficient with data analysis and results-oriented
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Detail oriented individual
  • Ability to work cross functionally at all levels of organization
