Eaton's Electrical division is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Richmond, VA.

This position will offer Sponsorship and relocation!

The Design Engineer (Mechanical) will contribute to the mechanical design and development of our product line, supporting the design, development, and production of prototype power distribution and monitoring/metering equipment. This role involves researching, evaluating, and documenting mechanical hardware design and production methods, equipment, systems, and sub-systems to meet requirements, applying knowledge of standards, codes, and engineering design principles. The engineer will assist in developing comprehensive mechanical engineering specifications for engineered to order products (ETO) and support the management and updates throughout the development and manufacturing process.

The expected annual salary for this role is $60,300-119,700 (bachelor's degree) with a one-time $6,000 sign on bonus or $80,000 (master's degree) with a one-time $10,000 sign on bonus. Be a part of the team responsible for ensuring our critical infrastructure such as data centers, businesses, and electric vehicle charging stations remain functional in the face of whatever power quality issues they face! What you'll do:

  • Assist in developing comprehensive product mechanical designs, installation diagrams, and testing plans for new product development (NPD). Support the update process throughout product development to production release.
  • Contribute to the development of mechanical aspects of new power distribution and monitoring products, following approved engineering specifications. Assist in testing and documenting new products per approved testing plans. Maintain design and test documentation within the engineering repository system.
  • Support Senior Engineers in planning and testing, as well as in obtaining Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) certification for new and existing products. Communicate and collaborate with the engineering team, designers, and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Assist in recommending design modifications to improve the product line by following and supporting the ECR/ECN/ISO9001 and other quality processes. Help prepare cost reduction proposals for new and existing products based on cost trades, design improvements, and the Value-Added Value Engineering (VAVE) process.
  • Cross-train on other product lines such as PDU, RPP, STS, Magnetics, and Busway. Create and maintain accurate documentation of concepts, design concepts, tool drawings, and shop orders in coordination with the Quality Assurance and Manufacturing functions.
  • Inspect designs as requested to verify conformance to specifications. Recommend measures to improve production methods and product quality.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and safe and healthful working conditions in assigned areas. Adhere to safety rules and regulations in engineering and test areas as established by company policy. Work with Production to find more efficient methods of producing work. Participate in activities pertaining to the Safety Program. Ensure that all regulatory and internal policies are followed.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, with graduation no later than August 2025
• Minimum of one internship/co-op experience or an equivalent of 3 months of mechanical engineering experience completed at the time of this application.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity in designing enclosures and conducting load analysis.
• Exposure in sheet metal design
• Hands-on experience in a manufacturing setting
• Familiarity with electro-mechanical systems
• Understanding of high-power product design considerations
