Eaton's AER MSD Mission System Division division is currently seeking a Lead Systems Engineer - AAR. This role is based in Davenport, IA. Relocation benefits will be offered within the US.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $91500.03 - $134200.04 a year.

What you'll do:

Primary Function

Lead Systems Engineers are responsible for ensuring a systems approach is applied to the product development efforts of the business. The systems engineer leads the realization of systems that satisfy critical-to-the-customer needs and requirements. They integrate the efforts of the engineering disciplines and subject matter experts. Systems engineers focus on needs and opportunity analyses, operational concept development, system scoping and requirements definition, architecture definition, tradeoff analysis, modeling, and simulation. They define, document, develop, and manage customer needs and required system functionality. They lead system validation and support system verification. They consider the business and technical needs of all customers with goal of providing a quality system solution that meets user needs.

Essential Functions:

• Provide technical leadership for systems and sub-system developments in compliance with Eaton approved engineering processes, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
• Create, develop, and leverage Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) models to enhance the development and lifecycle management of complex systems.
• Lead requirements capture, definition, analysis, requirements change management, requirement maturity metrics and traceability efforts.
• Support system design definition through work breakdown structure definition, architecture definition, decomposition of complex requirements, detail trade studies, modeling, and simulation (generate and maintain system function prediction models and system function control models).
• Generate and/or support system requirement documents: requirements management plans, system design descriptions, system & component specifications, requirements trace matrices, requirements verification matrices, and interface control documents.
• Lead Systems Requirements Review (SRR) and Functional Configuration Audits (FCA) and uses requirements management software (i.e. IBM Rational DOORS) to validate requirements, traceability, and verification with stakeholders.
• Analyze and document multi-disciplinary requirements including, but not limited to: mechanical, electro-mechanical, software, reliability, maintainability, and safety.
• Responsible for ensuring that product designs meet all technical, industry, and government specs, etc.
• Works on product design Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and proactively collaborates with technical leads, design engineers, and other technical functions to develop fully compliant product designs on time and on budget.
• Performs a primary role in risk & opportunity identification and mitigation/capture on new design and product improvement projects.
• May recommend architecture solutions that meets requirements needs; recognize various architectural patterns, apply them appropriately, understand strengths/weaknesses within those architectures and develop architectural variations as necessary.
• Support site and project planning, rollout, and compliance with Model Based Engineering (MBE) and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) requirements

Qualifications:

Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from accredited institution is required
  • Minimum 5 years of system, sub-system, product design, development, and or production design problem resolution experience.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States with company sponsorship now or in the future.
  • This position requires access to export-controlled information. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations applicable to that information, applicant must either be (A) a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, (B) eligible to access the export controlled information without a required export authorization, or (C) eligible and reasonably likely to obtain the required export authorization from the applicable U.S. government agency. The Company may, for legitimate business reasons, decline to pursue any export licensing process.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university
  • 7 years of experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, and/or Systems Engineering
  • 5 years of experience as a systems engineer leading programs with requirements development, validation, and verification, direct customer engagement, architecture development, systems documentation, and system simulation
  • Design for Six Sigma or Six-Sigma (DMAIC) Greenbelt or Blackbelt

Additional Information:

  • Strong communication skills with emphasis on technical writing and presentation.
  • Leadership skills with strong customer presence.
  • Demonstrable (tangible) Systems Engineering education, training, or experience; Model Based Systems Engineering experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience with CREO or other parametric CAD tools.
  • Experience with requirements management using DOORS.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and material selection for engineering design.
  • Working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) principles.
  • Experience with MBSE models, SysML, and CAMEO Software.
