Eaton Research Labs (ERL) is currently looking for a Lead Engineer - Advanced Computational Methods & Applications to join our team in Golden, CO. The primary role of this position is to lead and support technology development and execution for R&D projects related to advanced computational methods, machine learning algorithms, and simulation techniques for energy systems. The candidate is expected to lead and contribute to the development of high-performance computing (HPC), parallel processing, and implementation and validation of computational frameworks for integrated energy systems.

Position Overview:

The ERL is a corporate R&D function within Eaton's Chief Technology Office, responsible for innovative and breakthrough technology development and commercialization for Eaton products and service solutions. This position will lead the R&D of advanced computing techniques to enhance energy resilience against climate change, grid outages, and cyberattacks. The Lead Engineer will report to Technology Manager and help identify key technical gaps and influence technology roadmap for Eaton's products and services. This work will help businesses across Eaton solve critical business problems and uncover new business opportunities.

Job Responsibilities:

In this role you will:
• Serve as a technical contributor and/or lead in technology development and demonstration.
• Serve as an individual contributor and subject matter expert in government and non-government proposal development and/or project execution related to all aspects of advanced computation environment.
• Develop innovative solutions for synergistic and stand-alone applications in HPC, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), quantum computing, and other emerging computational resources.
• Support implementing state-of-the-art concepts and solutions into quick prototypes, feasibility studies, specifications, and eventually into larger systems and product components.
• Investigate, integrate, and validate new product designs abiding by time-based milestones. Engage multiple business stakeholders, cross-functional teams, National labs, Universities, and Customers.
• Innovate, invent, and challenge state-of-art design & process by securing critical intellectual properties through patents and publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
• Contribute to the development of strategies for technology roadmaps for specific applications that are linked to and supportive of the overall ERL and business strategies.
• Serve as a subject matter expert externally and internally. This includes leadership/active participation in external industry and technical groups, mentoring junior level staff and consulting internal business and engineering partners.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• PhD degree or PhD graduation no later then May 2025 (ABD) with in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, or related field from an accredited institution... OR .....Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, or related field from an accredited institution plus 3 years of industrial experience ..OR....Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics or related field from an accredited institution plus 5 years of industrial experience.
• Demonstrated experience in advanced computational systems and integration, including one or more of the following topics: HPC resource allocation and planning analysis; intelligent workload management; computational efficiency and optimization; fault-tolerant computing; edge and cloud controllers; distributed computing systems; or quantum computing algorithms / applications.
• Programming skills in Python and other relevant programming languages.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency with ML frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.(highly preferred)
• Familiarity with TorchQuantum for quantum-aware optimization algorithms (QAOA) and quantum machine learning (QML).
• Strong background in energy systems, including power systems, renewable energy, and control systems.
• Experience using one or more of power systems simulation software such as SimPowerSytems, CYME, or PSCAD.
• Experience with real-time simulations and hardware-in-the-loop platforms is a plus.
• Working experience with version control systems like GitHub and containerization tools like Docker is advantageous.
