Eaton is seeking an CI and Industry 4.0 Engineer within the Electrical Sector's Protection, Control and Solutions business. Reporting to the CI and Industry 4.0 Manager, the primary objective of this role is to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety in manufacturing operations through the strategy deployment of industry 4.0 tools and technologies. This position is based at our Airdrie, Alberta facility, requires onsite presence and offers benefits from day 1.
The CI and Industry 4.0 engineer will be the champion of several pillars in the Industry 4.0 Strategy helping Airdrie's plant to drive the digital transformation. In this role, the incumbent's responsibilities span 3 key areas:
- The establishment of digital connectivity to monitor the performance and health of manufacturing assets.
- The development of critical data pipelines that help run the business and the building of tools that analyze data which aim to optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of our KPI and process.
- The deployment of automation technologies such as robots, cobots, autonomous mobile robots and machine learning.

Additionally, the engineer will actively contribute to the overall deployment of other Industry 4.0 technologies (such as augmented reality, factory simulation, process control and traceability, digital work instructions, and additive manufacturing) as well as designing, implementing and optimizing industrial processes including manufacturing flow, material and tools, to improve value added activities on the production floor.
This is an exciting new key role to join Airdrie OPEX team and contribute significantly to the advancement of Eaton's manufacturing capabilities.
Additionally:
- Manage Industry 4.0 projects, including automation, IIoT, machine learning, systems integration, and business analytics.
- Develop expertise in Industry 4.0 tools and technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute projects.
- Guide and support plant teams on machine connectivity and data acquisition.
- Train plant personnel on Industry 4.0 tools and technologies.
- Support plant leadership in defining project objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with business case development for Industry 4.0 projects.
- Lead continuous improvement projects impacting plant data analysis.
- Seek opportunities to improve data quality.
- Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to optimize industrial processes.
Qualifications:
Basic (required) Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Five (5) years of experience in manufacturing, machine automation, and/or IT project development
- Two (2) years of experience implementing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies in a manufacturing setting
- Understanding of machine connectivity, communication protocols, data management, and business analytics
- Experience with any of the following: Power BI, Power Apps, or Power Automate
- Legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of IT infrastructure and system integration
- Green or Black Belt certification
- Proficient with computer and software tools, including advanced Excel capabilities, MS-Project, Minitab, SQL, and Python
- Experience in controls engineering, programming, additive manufacturing, big data, and analytics
- Knowledge/Experience with the setup of Kepware OPC system
- Knowledge of Industrial IoT concepts and solutions
