About the Role:
McCloskey by OPIS has an opening for an experienced Analyst in our global research and analyst team. You will be the senior price analyst leading our expanding coverage into the global bulk ores markets, and their use in both ferroalloys and batteries.
You will work alongside our industry-leading journalists and price analysts, located around the world.
This role can be based in Shanghai, Beijing, or offered remotely for the ideal candidate. You will report to the Associate Director of Research and Analysis.
About The Team
McCloskey by OPIS provides integrated offerings of market intelligence, price indexes and forecasting. Energy transition relies on a mineral-intensive process, and it is important to understand the dynamics shaping thermal and metallurgical coal, ferroalloys, iron ore, scrap, steel and base metals markets, globally and in important regions across Australia, Africa, India, China, Europe and the Americas.

You Will:
- Analyze bulk ore, ferroalloys and battery prices weekly, with a focus on China.
- Help launch new ferroalloys, bulk ores, and battery price assessments, define price specifications, gather market feedback.
- Create content on the ferroalloys, bulk ores and battery markets, working with analysts in Africa, Asia and Europe.
- Periodic pieces on topical industry issues (e.g. regulatory/policy developments, geopolitical issues, investment, project pipeline, ESG etc.).
- Maintain client and industry relationships - bringing these relationships from prior roles. Share and source market intelligence.
- Engage in business development, assisting OPIS' account managers in the sales process through maintaining sales pipelines and assisting in the sales process.
- Be a public face of McCloskey and OPIS in the ferroalloys space, through client/stakeholder engagements, industry presentations, media interviews, content marketing.
You Have:
- 5+ years of experience in the steel or battery raw materials industries and markets.
- Experience covering ferroalloys, bulk ores, batteries or related markets as an analyst.
- Excellent inter-personal skills, impact and influence skills.
- Excellent ability to present and to lead public discussions (e.g. moderating panels at conferences)
- Strong quantitative skills advantageous
- Exemplary written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Work within a team while sometimes operating alone
- Manage others while maintaining personal output
- Bachelor's degree
