The Team:

China Plastics team is responsible for converting plastics experience, knowledge, insights, and analysis into sustainable and profitable services. This includes building mutually beneficial relationships with key industry contacts across the supply chain that utilize or could benefit from CMA services. The mission is to grow CMA services by providing an unbiased expert view of polyolefins market dynamics.

The Impact:

It will promote an understanding of CMA's forecasting methodology and models to clients. Key activities will be maintaining, optimizing CMA' model base, and deepening analysis for routine reports and influential market events. The objective is to boost business growth in China market by developing differentiated products and services.

What's in it for you:

Exposure to market players in the polyolefins value chain, from suppliers to global brand owners. Involves in strategic conversations and in-depth research leveraging on well-established CMA models on topics ranging from industry economics, trends in trade, developing technology and supply/demand evolution. Enriches experience and expertise in the upstream petrochemical feedstock dynamics and interfaces with assigned polymers.

You will:
  • Provides primary research and ongoing analysis for the China market. Research includes, but is not limited to market dynamics, producer capacities, supply/demand balance information, trade balances, pricing, production costs, individual company analysis, market analysis and consumption analysis and associated econometric modeling.
  • Converts previous chemical and plastics market industry experience, knowledge and expertise, analysis, and insights into sustainable, profitable market advisory services.
  • Builds and nourishes personal relationships with key industry in the plastics and financial industries with respect to the products assigned for analysis. Utilizes contacts to regularly collect market information. Provides insightful report and analysis that benefits existing and potential clients of CMA Markit Chemical services.
  • Promptly responds to internal and external client questions and serve as a resource for client brainstorming/discussions. Contributes market expertise to proprietary projects, as needed.
  • Develops market presentations and pursues opportunities to present information in face-to-face client industry contact meetings, and at conferences. Actively markets the CMA Chemical capabilities in direct interface meetings.
  • Provides regular neutral and objective price inputs and written analysis for Market Advisory Service reports.
  • Develops and maintains a fundamental working understanding of CMA Chemical basic model templates of supply/demand, econometric price forecasts, and trade grids. Updates the production capacity database and supply demand balances.
  • Actively pursues and develops unique analytical approaches that provide value to CMA Chemical clients and potential clients. Challenges existing analytical framework and conventional wisdom for continuous improvement.
  • Regularly interfaces with global Market Advisory Services team members to ensure analysis consistency.
  • Identifies new business opportunities for sales and consulting follow-up. Supports sales and consulting as needed to secure new client subscriptions and renewals.
  • Collaborates with other plastics business team to achieve plastics team goals.

You have:
  • Ten or more years of chemical industry experience, including experience related to the polyethylene and polypropylene. Commercial experience is desirable
  • University degree required. Chemical engineering or chemistry degree preferred. MBA or other graduate degree is desirable
  • Ability and willingness to establish and maintain personal relationships and develop high degree of trust at multiple levels within a client's organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including fluent in English and Mandarin.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills; ability to identify and articulate core/essential issues within complex problems and deliver insights and solutions.
  • Demonstrated "team player"; ability to internalize organizational strategy and objectives; team leadership experience with demonstrated ability to motivate for collaborative success. Drives for action and results.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (after travel is safe)
