Advanced Technology Group
ATG is the research and technology arm of Dolby Labs. It has multiple competencies that innovate technologies in audio, video, AR/VR, gaming, music, and movies. Many areas of expertise related to computer science and electrical engineering, such as AI/ML, computer vision, image processing, algorithms, digital signal processing, audio engineering, data science & analytics, distributed systems, cloud, edge & mobile computing, natural language processing, knowledge engineering and management, social network analysis, computer graphics, image & signal compression, computer networking, IoT are highly relevant to our research.
What You'll Do
Sight and sound shape our everyday experiences, and we believe data holds the key to making those experiences more personalized, immersive, and resilient. By leveraging data, we can synthesize extraordinary experiences previously unimaginable.
We're seeking talented researchers in database systems and big data management who are excited to advance technologies that benefit both Dolby and society as a whole. Our research focuses on:
- Data platforms, data science, and analytics-exploring large-scale cloud and edge data services and platforms.
- Cutting-edge methods-accelerating insights from diverse data sources in novel and impactful ways.
- Big data management and scalable, self-service data cleaning and transformation.
- Enhancing data quality, search, and discovery of structured data.
- Information extraction, time-series and heterogeneous data analytics, and metadata management.
- Applied AI, machine learning, data mining, and visualization.
- Natural language processing.
- Big data systems, with a focus on resource management, storage, caching, query optimization, security, and privacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Advance Heterogeneous Data Management: Research polystore systems and apply AI/ML techniques to foundational challenges, such as data quality, profiling, integration, and schema matching.
- Develop Scalable Tools: Build frameworks for developing machine learning models and data science algorithms across various domains, including tabular, time-series, text, audio, and video.
- Innovate Distributed Architectures: Design architectures leveraging edge computing for use cases like predictive routing, adaptive environments, and data-driven experiences.
- Collaborate Across Domains: Partner with Dolby's Applied Technology Group (ATG) researchers to address data-related opportunities in AI/ML for audio and video.
What You Need to Succeed
Competencies
- Technical Depth: Strong knowledge of software architecture for real-time, distributed processing of audio/video algorithms across cloud and edge devices. Basic understanding of audio/video streaming formats.
- Passion for Exploration: Eagerness to learn and innovate in emerging technologies.
- Inventiveness: Develop technologies, algorithms, and tools to position Dolby as a global leader in enhancing digital sight and sound experiences. Partner with business groups to bring innovations to market.
- Sense of Urgency: Adapt quickly to trends and technologies, developing algorithms that maintain a competitive edge.
- Collaboration: Work closely with peers, academia, and industry leaders to develop groundbreaking technologies.
Desired Background
- PhD in Computer Science or related fields.
- Expertise in relational databases, big data systems, and data analytics.
- In-depth knowledge of data management, distributed systems, query optimization, and applied data science.
- Proficiency in statistics, machine learning, and core data structures/algorithms.
- Familiarity with git and project management tools like JIRA.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
- Relevant publications in conferences like SIGMOD, VLDB, or KDD.
- Experience with Databricks, Spark, or cloud-based data services.
- Familiarity with AI model development and cloud-based deployment.
