Our Senior Manager, Technology Portfolio Management provides strategic and tactical leadership for overseeing and strategically managing a collection of technology initiatives and operational cost portfolios within the organization. This role aligns them with business objectives by prioritizing investments, optimizing resource allocation, monitoring performance, and mitigating risks to ensure maximum value delivery from the technology portfolio. You will collaborate with teammates, leaders, and stakeholders from Technology, business, and finance to ensure alignment with organizational strategies, lead the selection of programs or projects with senior leaders, prioritize efforts to drive operational cost management strategies, and secure resources for project and product/service success. This person will play an integral role in building a cross-functional technology portfolio management center of excellence grounded in Technology Business Management principles in Enterprise Technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to a team of Portfolio Managers responsible for all aspects of technology portfolio management, including project ideation, scoping, prioritization, and activation, as well as service/product/application cost transparency support within Enterprise Technology.

  • Develop and implement IT portfolio management strategies and methodologies to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

  • Monitor and analyze portfolio performance against key metrics (cost, schedule, quality) to identify potential risks and opportunities for improvement.

  • Conduct ongoing portfolio review meetings with executives to establish a prioritized portfolio and ensure alignment with business goals.

  • Lead ongoing prioritization and value realization of investment alignment to strategic goals, objectives, and tactics.

  • Define, establish, and implement enhancements to portfolio process definition, procedural documentation, tool requirements, and end-user training.

  • Support cost optimization programs, including alignment with software rationalization and vendor management organizations.

  • Develop and foster relationships and engagement models with Enterprise Technology leaders, PMO, service/product/application owners, and external partners.

  • Develop comprehensive reports to track portfolio performance, including key metrics and trends, and present insights and recommendations to leadership to inform strategic decisions.

  • Exercise critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities with strong attention to detail.

  • Collaborate, delegate, and oversee analytic deliverables with Portfolio and Business Operations Analysts.

  • Responsible for adapting departmental plans/priorities to guide team objectives and accountable for performance/results in own area. Guided by policies, procedures, and business plans that are overseen by their leader.

  • Drive and own completion of special projects (up to 10%).

  • Deliver on ad-hoc requests as required (up to 10%).

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of combined IT experience in portfolio, demand, technology business management, or operational finance strongly preferred.

  • Experience managing direct reports responsible for a large technology portfolio of project and operational costs with multiple business stakeholders.

  • Demonstrable work experience with reporting and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Excel visualizations).

  • Demonstrable experience with a PPM tool (e.g., Clarity, Planview, Align) preferred.

  • Ability to present materials to management to drive decision-making.

  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of the organization.

  • Exhibits critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work and adapt to a fast-paced dynamic environment with consistent change.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office online and collaboration tools.

  • Technology Business Management (TBM) certifications desired: Executive Foundation or Apptio role-based certifications.

  • Project Management Institute (PMI) certifications desired: Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP).

  • Resource Management experience is a plus.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; Master’s Degree preferred.

The hiring range for this position in California is $133,800 - $ 183,900.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
