Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of Disney’s Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, its talented corps of Imagineers is responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects. WDI Master Planning manages the long-term development framework for sustainable growth of each resort and provides expertise to support new business opportunities. Our team provides data analytics, land planning, environmental, entitlement, infrastructure, and real estate development expertise to enable smart growth and preserve future flexibility for development and expansion of our parks and resorts across the globe. The team is part of the larger Design & Master Planning Studio that includes the disciplines of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Theme Lighting Design, Graphic Design, Engineering and Design Management.

We are seeking a collaborative Master Planner Senior to support and guide complex and innovative planning efforts across our global portfolio. The Master Planner Senior reports to the Master Planning Executive.

You will:

  • Collaborate with creative and site teams to translate creative vision into site expansion and physical layouts at different scales - from the Resort level, park and land levels – to illustrate the development potential and possibilities for future expansion and new development.

  • Work with other Global Creative Strategy Studio team members to synthesize data analysis into planning and design approach to inform program options, site organization and Menu/Master Plan development.

  • Leverage and apply global planning intelligence as part of creative visioning efforts involving future growth and development initiatives.

  • Develop massing studies, circulation studies and typology footprint analysis to understand site scenario and development opportunities

  • Manage high complexity of work at different scales with an emphasis on larger scale environments with multiple variables and stakeholders

  • Guide and mentor junior planning/design talent.

  • Develop high quality site layout sketches and illustrative land use/massing diagrams using multiple digital and non-digital platforms and tools to visualize complex planning and development scenarios

  • Prepare and deliver presentations to WDI and Site Portfolio stakeholders 

  • Apply an understanding of site development issues and constraints including a strong knowledge of predevelopment and planning documents and agreements.

  • Collaborate with Imagineering disciplines to translate site layout scenarios in vision planning phase to hand off and inform first phases in design

You will have:

  • 5 or more years work experience in landscape architecture or urban design

  • The ability to understand data analysis and strategy and apply to site development approaches

  • Experience working at different scales, with an emphasis on larger scale complex environments with multiple variables

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Sensitivity to synthesize cultural, environmental, and business needs

  • Experience and proficiency with hand drawn sketching, graphics, and communication skills

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, 3D modeling, and presentation software tools

  • Highly skilled in conceptualizing creative concepts and can iterate quickly and easily with others to articulate into site scenarios

  • Experience in themed entertainment projects across multiple design phases, with emphasis on early-stage development and ideation

  • Proficiency to communicate complex ideas clearly and transparently, and thrives on collaborative and integrated work efforts with multiple partners

  • General comprehension of storytelling and narrative-based entertainment design practices

  • Experience with GIS is preferred

  • Experience guiding and mentoring emerging talent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years proven experience in master planning process from initial ideation to full funding stages of design

  • Membership in one or more professional organizations such as American Society of Landscape Architects, American Institute of Architects, and/or Urban Land Institute is desirable

  • Field art direction and construction administration experience during phases of themed entertainment projects

  • Project experience domestically and internationally

  • Understand site development issues and constraints including a strong knowledge of predevelopment and planning documents and agreements.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited University or college in Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Environmental Design, Architecture or equivalent.

  • An advanced graduate degree is desirable

  • Professional licensure is preferred
