EchoStar is seeking an innovative and strategic Director of Data Platforms and Insights to lead the next evolution of our data infrastructure and business intelligence ecosystem. This role will drive the transformation of data platforms by embedding AI capabilities to enhance internal processes, optimize workflows, and enable advanced AI-driven analytics delivery. Based at our Englewood, CO headquarters, the Director will oversee platform innovation, production stability, and user-centric data services, ensuring seamless access to high-quality, virtualized data for business analysts, data scientists, and decision-makers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to data platform and business intelligence teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Define and implement a 2025 strategy to revolutionize the data-user experience, enabling rapid discovery of trusted data assets.
- Oversee the design and development of AI-powered tools for data automation, including ETL pipeline creation, data transformation, and refactoring.
- Manage enhancements to platform infrastructure to support virtualized, metadata-rich data access and reduce reliance on local data copies.
- Champion AI-driven business intelligence tools, such as Tableau Plus, for automated dashboard creation, data visualization, and reporting.
- Establish effective project management frameworks to deliver high-quality, on-time, and within-budget data platform solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data services with business unit priorities and evolving data needs.
- Advocate for data governance and stewardship, ensuring visibility into metadata, ownership, quality, and lineage.
- Lead enterprise initiatives to drive data-driven decision-making and automation through AI technologies.
- Mentor and develop team members to stay ahead of emerging trends in AI, data engineering, business intelligence, and cloud platforms.
- Foster an innovation mindset, focusing on automation, process optimization, and adoption of new tools to improve team efficiency and business outcomes.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 15+ years of experience leading data platform and business intelligence organizations with a focus on AI-driven innovation or automation-driven process improvements.
- Strong knowledge of modern data warehouse technologies, including Databricks, Snowflake, and AWS services.
- Expertise in automating data engineering tasks through CI/CD pipelines, orchestration frameworks (e.g., Airflow), and DevOps processes.
- Experience implementing and optimizing virtualized data platforms with metadata management, data lineage, and quality measures.
- Demonstrated success in enhancing data-user experiences by improving data accessibility, discovery, and trust.
- Strong understanding of data visualization and reporting platforms, particularly Tableau/Tableau Plus.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with agile methodologies, emphasizing continuous delivery and iterative improvements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with AWS Redshift, AWS Glue, Lake Formation, and Databricks Delta.
- Hands-on experience with Spark, Python, SQL, and Apache Hadoop for data ingestion and processing.
- Familiarity with data governance platforms, metadata management, and automated data quality frameworks.
- Knowledge of AI operations and production techniques, including scalable model deployment and monitoring.
- Experience managing project financials, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.
- Proven ability to develop budget estimates, perform cost-benefit analyses, and manage vendor relationships, including MSA/SOW creation.

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
