What You'll Do

Responsible for oversight on design and implementation of products assigned to their team. Still needs to think things through, but has their driver's license. This means they can take user stories and new features from idea to production unattended. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

How You'll Do It

  • Analyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with high quality (security, reliability, operations) to production. Underds the software development lifecycle and leverages critical thinking skills to properly evaluate features and functionality.
  • Identifies System tuning and optimization through annual benchmark testing by identifying capacity threshold adjustments, and platform resource assignment
  • Develops benchmarking capabilities and reports for production capacity
  • Develops performance and capacity reporting for all PULSE BT (Business Technology) applications and systems
  • Utilizes various capacity and performance management tools
  • Utilizes various testing solutions in pre-production environments
  • Determines current utilization and capacity of systems supporting PULSE business
  • Monitors systems daily performance to identify trends, and issues related to capacity gaps, and results of planned changes.
  • Ensures systems builds and client implementations meet PULSE standards for resiliency and reliability
  • Uses automation, system tools, open source solutions, observability and 'security first' principles in daily work
  • Achieves team commitments (and influence others to do the same) through collaboration with other engineers, architects, product owners and data scientists.
  • Contributes to and leads technology communities of practice at Discover in areas of design-thinking, tools/technology, agile software development, security, architecture and/or data.
  • Creates and enforces IT standards within the system/application infrastructure and compatibility with the architecture of the platform.

Qualifications You'll Need

The Basics

  • Bachelors - Computer Science, Engineering or related
  • 3+ Years - Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale

Physical And Cognitive Responsibilities

  • Primarily remain in a stationary position.
  • No required movement about the work environment to complete the major responsibilities of the job.
  • Primarily performed indoors in an office setting.
  • Ability to operate office equipment such as but not limited to computer, telephone, printer, and calculator.
  • Ability to communicate verbally.; Ability to communicate in written form.

  • Past experience in capacity planning and infrastructure scaling.
  • Working knowledge of performance simulators - Selenium, Cucumber, JMeter, Paragon, PayHuddle
  • Skilled on multiple technology streams and high adaptable to changing technology landscape
  • Expertise in Python
  • Shell scripting
  • SQL
  • Hands on Java programming
  • OCP/AWS
  • CICD/Jenkins
  • Understanding of RDBMS

Compensation:
The base pay for this position generally ranges between $89,000.00 to $150,200.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
