Purpose:
Diageo is seeking a fantastic and experienced category manager skilled in both the tactical and strategic elements of driving Category Advisor relationships!

This role will lead the Walmart Spirits Category Advisor Team at Diageo, ensuring the buyer's vision is implemented by providing best-in-class category recommendations through a fact-based approach: category assessment, consumer insights, market trends, assortment optimization, planogram development, promotional planning and evaluation, etc.

About the role:

  • Candidate will have a solid understanding of the business, products, markets, and the needs of customers; being recognized as an expert in the Spirits category.
  • Complexity is high (very SKU intensive category) and flexibility is critical in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
  • The role requires a significant level of collaboration - the ability to lead a team and build productive relationships with multiple partners, both internal and external.
  • Deep understanding of category management practices focused on developing category growth strategies, shelf merchandising and distribution recommendations.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Category Development team to ensure results and goals are met.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Walmart merchants and cross-functional teams to support key objectives, goals and business outcomes.
  • Support Walmart Buyers in developing a category strategy both in-store and online.
  • Lead planogram recommendations to increase modular efficiency, conversion, improving shopability, and space to sales leveraging JDA and Shelf IQ technology.
  • Lead regular reporting to highlight performance gaps and growth opportunities.
  • Use various data sources including syndicated data and retailer POS; research to solve current business issues, define category and consumer trends, and identify business opportunities and competitive threats. This analysis will be translated into fact-based recommendations.
  • Assume expert role and ownership of assigned tools, processes, and tasks.


Experience / skills required:
  • Proven 5 years' experience required in Category Management, preferably in an advisory role in CPG or Adult Beverage Categories.
  • Extensive knowledge of Reset processes and Space Management.
  • People management experience.
  • Strong technical capabilities with experience in software systems relevant to the Category Management function including space planning software (JDA and Shelf IQ) and syndicated data sources.
  • Advanced computer skills; highly proficient in Excel and Powerpoint, Alteryx experience is a plus.
  • Ability to connect insight to actionable store execution.
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills are essential.
