Context
Diageo's Analytics & Insights (A&I) team is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing analytics products to drive our competitive advantage and enable empirically based decisions.
As part of the Analytics & Insight team, you will play a role for continuing to advance the sophistication of the power of analytics throughout Diageo. You will serve as an evangelist for the power of data and support the development of analytics products to enable decisions at Diageo. You will become an invaluable partner to your stakeholders, help catalyse their thinking about what's possible, support them gaining trust from their data, identify meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources; interpret and communicate insights and findings from analysis and experiments to drive top line growth, personalised consumer experiences and optimises business processes.
The purpose of this role is to improve a domains data maturity. The role will work with product managers and data owners to drive the appropriate data domain & data asset activities in the aim of delivering fit for purpose analytical data. This will cover both project and BAU activities. These activities will cover the governance of metadata, tracking project compliance with data policies, developing data issue resolution processes, educating business users on their responsibilities with data, and tracking data quality through various systems and teams. The role owner will write the strategy for delivering data management within their domain and then see it implemented through close stakeholder management and influencing.
Key Responsibilities
Data Strategy and Governance:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Value Stream (VS) data strategy
- Implement and enforce data and analytical governance policies within the VS analytical data
Data Quality and Performance:
- Establish and monitor data quality metrics end to end for analytical data and products within the VS
- Implement processes to address and improve trust in data
- Manage the total cost of the VS data processing and storage to deliver optimal value
Data Hierarchies:
- Manage governance for hierarchies in BAU and within projects ensuring that data is interoperable with other data assets
- Align new data sources to the globally agreed hierarchies
Documentation and Communication:
- Document data processes, methodologies, and solutions for knowledge sharing and training purposes
- Govern metadata documentation of the VS KPIs, data assets and products within Alation
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand and implement data requirements
- Collaborate with executives, department heads, and other stakeholders to align data initiatives with VS objectives
Key Qualifications and Skills
An ideal Analytics Data Lead should have a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and business acumen to effectively drive the VS/Function`s data initiatives and contribute to its overall success.
Essential Skills for this position
- Strong proficiency in data management, analytics tools, and a grounding in programming (e.g., SQL, Python).
- In-depth knowledge of data governance principles and best practices.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, GCP) and big data technologies.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to think strategically and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in project delivery/leadership - preferably in agile project
Preferred Skills
- Certification in data management or analytics (e.g., CDMP, DASCA).
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
- Experience with agile methodologies and project management.
- Experience with change management
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulations related to data (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
