Context/Scope:

Diageo's Analytics & Insights team is responsible for designing, developing and implementing analytics products to drive what makes us successful and enable empirically based decisions.

As part of the Analytics & Insight team, you will play a role for continuing to advance the sophistication of the power of analytics throughout Diageo.

You will serve as an evangelist for the power of data and develop analytics products to enable decisions at Diageo. You will become an invaluable partner to your customers, help catalyse their thinking about what's possible, identify meaningful sights from large data and metadata sources; interprets and communicate insights and findings from analysis and experiments to drive top line growth, personalised consumer experiences and optimises business processes.

The role has no budget ownership, however insights and understanding of architecture resource costs (from Azure Portal) is required.

Leadership Responsibilities/ Key Customers:

Purpose of Role
  • Own and constantly develop a value stream specific (domain) data visualization product portfolio in alignment with technological and business priorities
  • Accountable for end-to-end build of Analytics Products that meet Enterprise Architecture, Data Engineering and Data Visualisation standards
  • Formulate deep understanding of end-to-end data flow and technical architecture for all products in value stream significantly shaping solution design of products
  • Define data model in line with architecture standards to best fulfil business requirements and creates scalable, sustainable, enterprise-grade BI solution.
  • Act as technical lead of agile POD team developing robust BI solution: forming the right discovery and delivery teams and coordinating (internal and 3rd party) BI developers, Junior Developers, and Business Analysts
  • Steering the team in DevOps, including code review and acceptance of tasks and backlog items
  • Accountable for Service Introduction and BAU setup process
  • Works with Head of Data Visualisation and Lead Architects to apply and enhance Data Visualisation Standards e.g. model types
  • Works closely with Product Line leads to provide architecture coverage for assigned Analytics Products
  • Acts as ‘Tier 3' - i.e., data model-level - BAU support
  • Responsible for support and respective co-ordination of BI developers within Product team


Top 3-5 Accountabilities

Technical competence:
  • Technical Leadership for new Analytics Product builds and Change projects
  • Be responsible for and optimize Data Visualisation Architecture for assigned Analytics Products within value stream (domain)
  • Deep insight into end-to-end data flow for Analytics Products in value stream
  • Tier 3 BAU support
  • Feedback and enhancement of architecture and data model standards owned by Lead Architects


Eye for business:
  • Experience working with Marketing, advertising and first party consumer data e.g. Ability to bring together data points to create customer profiles and advise activation
  • An understanding of marketing drivers and levers of efficiency
  • Ability to build close relationships with business customers in Marketing domain rooted in driving data & analytics led innovation


Qualifications and Experience Required

Required
  • Several years of demonstrable experience in sophisticated development of BI solutions - preferably on Azure architecture
  • Bachelor's degree in IT/Engineering/Economics/Statistics. Preferably master's or equivalent experience in IT/Engineering/Economics/Statistics.
  • Hands-on working experience as Lead Developer, with sophisticated BI Product build including data modelling
  • Extensive knowledge of DAX & M language (Power query), defining and configuring coding standards and security model within Power BI models (RLS)
  • Validated expertise in data acquisition, processing, storage, and modelling for visual analytics (preferably Azure SQL, ADF and DataBricks)
  • Good Understanding of Azure BI architecture and Azure resources
  • In depth of knowledge of Microsoft Azure platform, cloud data pipelines, ADLS, ADB, Synapse
  • Experience in detailed user documentation and high-reaching/defining standards
  • Experience in building and navigating sophisticated business relationships while ensuring products are designed for optimal user experience and have measurable criteria for success
  • Experience with ADO, Jira, or similar DevOps solutions, including CI/CD
  • Experience with Agile and SAFe methodologies a plus


  • Open and willing to deepen solution architecture and data modelling skills
  • Flexible, multi-layered personality who works well partnering/collaborating in a matrixed team environment


  • English language proficiency
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills


  • Need to obtain AZ305 certificate in 18 months time

Advantage
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets, including CSV, TXT, JSON, and XML - advantage
  • Experience working with Design team (XD/UI) Developed reports/dashboard upon design templets, wireframe, figma screens
  • Demonstrated currency in user experience and visualization standard processes and evolving trends, technologies, and techniques.
