The Logistics Buyer is responsible for developing and implementing strategic procurement initiatives that optimize the supply chain, improve supplier relationships to drive value, and ensure efficient with initiative and contract management, drive sustainable logistics solutions, and secure governance to mitigate risk to Diageo. This role requires a strategic problem solver who can balance short-term operational needs with long-term goals, make well-informed decisions that ensure the best value equation for Diageo, and bring industry solutions to solve internal challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Management:
    • Develop and implement advanced procurement and logistics strategies aligned with corporate objectives and global logistics leaders.
    • Continuously evaluate the market environment to identify risks and opportunities, adapting strategies as needed.
  • Process Optimization:
    • Lead initiatives to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs without compromising quality or service.
    • Implement innovative technologies to enhance visibility and traceability across the supply chain.
  • Strategic Supplier Management
    • Evaluate and Select Suppliers by conduct detailed assessments of potential suppliers to ensure they meet Diageo's quality, cost, flexibility, and innovation requirements. Ensure compliance.
    • Develop Strategic Relationships, foster long-term partnerships with key suppliers to secure stable supply chains and collaborate on joint initiatives, negotiating favourable contracts that ensure continuous and reliable supply.
  • Commercial Relations:
    • Conduct robust bidding processes and negotiations with top management, aligning, influencing, making decisions that ensure success across multiple areas and levels within the organization.
    • Establish strong relationships with key suppliers,
  • Governance and Control:
    • Ensure robust controls over all subcategories with updated contracts along with their annexes to guarantee execution according to Diageo guidelines.
    • Mitigate risks associated with underperformance through detailed monitoring during implementation processes.
  • Regional Leadership:
    • Take on a regional leadership role in the customs brokers subcategory, leading the LAC Logistics CEO group.
    • Be the business matter guide responsible for defining strategies supporting other buyers in implementing standard methodologies.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Maintain a constant vision towards continuous improvement by seeking opportunities that guarantee long-term competitive advantage for Diageo.
  • Sustainable Practices Implementation:
    • Integrate environmental criteria into purchasing decisions by selecting suppliers committed to sustainability.
    • Reduce carbon footprint through logistical optimizations such as efficient routing and eco-friendly transportation methods.
  • Contract Adherence Monitoring:
    • Lead contract adherence monitoring by supporting the operations team in achieving established critical metrics.
    • Act proactively in case of deviations by bringing up them to top management as necessary.
  • Transformational Responsibility:
    • Adopt responsibility during transformational processes ensuring perfect execution vs contracted terms.
    • Communicate identified risks assertively allowing quick decision-making by senior management.
  • Risk Management
    • Develop contingency plans to mitigate risks associated with supply chain disruptions (natural disasters, geopolitical crises).
    • Diversify supply sources to minimize impact from specific supplier failures or delays
  • Cost controls and optimization
    • Negotiate favorable contract terms to improve value for money spent and continuously monitor logistics-related costs (transportation, storage, handling).
    • Economic Analysis of global economic environment (currency fluctuations) and implement appropriate financial strategies such as hedging against exchange rate risks
    • Collaborate closely with other departments like sales, marketing, production to align logistics strategies with overall goals.
    • Ensure projects are kept within budget.
  • Decision making.
    • Make strategic, tactical, and operational decisions that ensure not only the successful execution of projects but also contribute to the overall success of Diageo. These decisions should be based on E2E and data analysis, risk evaluation, and a consideration of both short- and long-term impacts.


Requirements for role:
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, industrial engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in procurement/logistics or similar roles within a multinational corporation.
  • Relevant certifications such as CPSM, CSCP, Lean Six Sigma or PMP are highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of global supply chain dynamics and standard methodologies in logistics management.
  • Consistent record of successful supplier negotiations and relationship management.


Skills & Competencies

Critical Thinking: Ability to develop long-term strategies that align with organizational goals. Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis tools, financials analysis, E2E (End-to-End) supply chain management analytics and optimizing inventory levels. Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation skills for securing favorable terms with suppliers. Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with advanced logistics software systems (Coupa CSO/SAP/Salesforce/Llamasoft). Communication Skills: Excellent verbal/written communication skills for effective interdepartmental collaboration.
