About the Role:

The role of the maintenance/asset care planner is to improve workforce productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning and coordination of labor, parts and material, and equipment access. The maintenance planner prepares work plans for individual jobs and assists the maintenance manager in preparing work schedules and reports. This role will be expected to make decisions on behalf of the business for the specific business object. These decisions should be made in conjunction with input from the business and workstreams.

The role will be heavily involved be specialized role focused on the planning, scheduling, and optimization of maintenance activities for critical plant utilities and facilities, including ammonia chillers, chill filtration systems, compressors, boilers, HVAC, electrical systems, and other industrial utility infrastructure.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Will use all available resources to complete maintenance and repair activities in the most effective and efficient way.
  • Will prioritize and assign resources in conjunction with preventative and corrective maintenance activities. Establish positive relationships with plant personnel and contacts outside the plant to effectively and efficiently carry out responsibilities.
  • Search for parts in inventory.
  • Provide information and reporting for weekly and periodic maintenance planning meetings.
  • Participates in developing and assisting in communicating short-range and medium-range maintenance plans.
  • Review and screen maintenance requests for completeness, accuracy, necessity and priority and obtain approvals.
  • Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for critical plant utilities, including ammonia chillers, chill filtration systems, compressors, boilers, HVAC, and electrical systems.
    - Coordinate with maintenance teams to prioritize and schedule work orders, ensuring minimal disruption to plant operations.
    - Plan and oversee maintenance activities for ammonia refrigeration systems, including leak detection, pump maintenance, and condenser/evaporator inspections.
  • Technical Expertise in Utility Systems:- Provide technical guidance on the operation and maintenance of ammonia refrigeration systems, chill filtration, compressors, and boilers.
  • Determine the best way to accomplish maintenance jobs while limiting disruption to production through knowledge, research, consultation and site visits.
  • Plan individual jobs by establishing logical steps and dependencies, provide drawings for jobs, arrange for special tools and equipment, resource and skill requirements, parts materials, special tools and contract service requirements.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions via Work Orders, seek approvals as needed and monitor and expedite parts and materials delivery as needed.
  • Assemble the planned job package, agree on scope with maintenance manager and schedule jobs for execution when all resources requirements are on site.
  • Preparation of schedules, Gantt charts and management reports for shutdowns (major and minor). Develop planner reference systems including a file of planned job packages for recurring jobs, plus labor and material libraries for each equipment center.
  • Interpret and provide historical equipment cost information.
  • Make recommendations for system improvement.
  • Establish equipment-numbering system and number all equipment.
  • Develop PM program and procedures for each piece of equipment.
  • Develop task lists for existing & new equipment.
  • Ensure accuracy of equipment bills of materials.
  • Maintain equipment history in the CMMS(SAP) as detailed and complete as possible.
  • Review equipment history for trends and recommend improvements.
  • Keep equipment listing up to date (additions and clean (deletions).
  • Keep backlog up to date and clean.
  • Ensure drawings are revised and kept current.
  • Assist with development of annual overhaul schedule. Obtain agreement and publish the weekly maintenance schedules.


Qualifications and Experience:
  • BA/BS in area of responsibility, preferably in engineering, or equivalent training and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in planning, utilities management, or a related role in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of maintenance management and project management.
  • Detailed knowledge of equipment maintenance requirements and ability to describe what is to be accomplished.
  • Good Planning and Estimating Skills.
  • Proven experience with ammonia chillers, chill filtration systems, compressors, boilers, and other industrial utility systems.
  • High interpersonal effectiveness to develop and sustain positive relationships with coworkers, and strong customer service orientation. Good facilitation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems. Proficient in the use of computer software tools (Spreadsheets, project planning, presentation software, statistical process control, word processing and data-base). SAP experience is desirable.
  • Experience planning, repair WO, and procurement of materials with SAP.
  • Functional knowledge of packaging, processing, and utilities maintenance and how they interact in an operations environment.
  • Strong time management and prioritizing skills, as well as the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced customer-driven environment.
