The Data Catalogue Product Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of the data catalogue within Diageo. This role focuses on ensuring effective data management, governance, and accessibility, allowing stakeholders to leverage data for informed decision-making.

Financial

The role will not have direct budget responsibility but will need to be financially aware of responsibilities and remain budget conscious and compliant.

This role works closely with stakeholders and teams within Analytics & Insights, as well as across Diageo

Leadership Responsibilities/ Key Stakeholders
  • Collaborate with various functions and stakeholders to understand their metadata needs and ensure that metadata practices meet those requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members, helping them develop their skills and advance their careers through regular feedback and mentorship.
  • Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews to assess individual contributions and provide constructive feedback.
  • Encourage a collaborative team environment where members feel safe to share ideas, take risks, and work together towards common goals.
  • Address and resolve conflicts or issues within the team promptly and effectively to maintain a positive working atmosphere.
  • Identify training and development opportunities for team members, promoting continuous learning and skill enhancement.

Purpose of Role
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the data catalogue that aligns with the Diageo's data management and governance goals.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the data catalogue and drive continuous improvement.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies related to data cataloguing and data management, bringing innovative solutions to the organization.
  • Foster collaboration between IT, data analytics, and business teams to ensure the catalogue effectively serves the organization's needs.
  • Evaluate and select metadata management tools and technologies that support efficient metadata storage, retrieval, and governance.
  • Participate in data governance initiatives to ensure that metadata management practices align with broader data management and governance policies.

Top 3-5 Accountabilities
  • Work closely with business units, data owners, and end-users to understand their data needs and ensure the catalogue meets those requirements.
  • Oversee the management of metadata within the catalogue, ensuring it is accurate, up-to-date, and adheres to established standards.
  • Ensure the data catalogue includes data lineage information to help users understand the origins and transformations of the data.
  • Establish and maintain metadata standards and best practices, ensuring consistency and quality in metadata across systems.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of metadata.

Qualifications and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10 years proven experience in product management, particularly with data-related products.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data management practices, and data cataloguing tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on problem-solving and decision-making.

Preferred Skills
  • Proficiency in product management tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum).
  • Familiarity with data visualisation and reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of data architecture concepts and data warehousing principles.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into user-friendly language.

  • Proficiency in managing and Analysing data is crucial. This involves ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and accessibility across the catalogue.
  • Ability to handle large volumes of information, prioritise tasks, and manage timelines effectively.
  • Understanding user needs and preferences to help in curating a relevant and appealing catalogue
