This role is site based at Diageo's east Belfast packaging facility is a 12-acre site running a 24/7 operation and is supplied with beer from St James Gate brought to the site in bulk tankers, which each hold up to 30,000 litres of beer. It has been operating for over 30 years, formerly as Irish Bonding and employs 150 direct staff. The site produces over 20 brands, including Guinness Draught, Extra Stout and Foreign Extra Stout, Harp, Hop House 13, Smithwick's and Rockshore.

About this Role

We are seeking a dynamic Area Manager to drive Tier 2 and Tier 3 operations, ensuring excellence across safety, quality, service, and cost.

As the Area Manager, you will champion good governance to meet health, safety, and environmental standards, drive conformance with regulatory and accreditation requirements (such as ISO and HACCP), and ensure compliance with CARM controls.

Your mission is to lead the World Class Manufacturing Programme, partnering with the Manex Manager to set and achieve departmental goals that exceed our balanced scorecard targets.

You will provide strategic leadership, coaching, and support to your team, encouraging a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Your role will involve effective problem-solving, setting objectives, and managing change processes.

Building positive relationships with the Site Engineering Manager and Manex Manager will be crucial, as will ensuring your team's skills and proficiencies are aligned with our long-term planning goals.

You will actively ensure that standards are upheld and performance issues are promptly addressed.

About You
  • The ideal candidate will be a results-driven leader with a degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering or science-related discipline and/or relevant experience.
  • NEBOSH qualification is a must, highlighting your dedication to health and safety excellence.
  • Demonstratable leadership experience in a FMCG production or manufacturing environment. It would be advantageous if you have a deep understanding of packaging, brewing, processing, and plant technologies.
  • You'll be a champion of manufacturing excellence, with a proven ability to implement leadership tools and techniques that drive performance. Your financial acumen is solid, and you possess strong engagement and communication skills, enabling you to build a high-performance environment in large, multi-disciplined teams.
  • Your ability to articulate and engage employees in the vision of the site and organisation is a key strength for this role. You'll consistently demonstrate role model behaviour and coach others to exceed minimum requirements.
