The Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) Director for Delta Dental is accountable for evolving the PMO and directing project/program management activities through oversight of the enterprise-wide project portfolio. This role oversees a team of portfolio delivery, project and program managers who are responsible for managing the organization's most critical enterprise initiatives to deliver on strategic and financial objectives set forth in the portfolio and enterprise roadmaps. The Director will also drive the maturity of Delta Dental's EPMO through the development of strategic plans and best practices, balancing the ability to run the business and transform the business at the same time.

This is a hybrid position and requires the incumbent to reside near one of our main site locations: San Francisco/Oakland (CA), Mechanicsburg (PA) or Alpharetta (GA).

Responsibilities:

  • Leads a cross-functional team of Portfolio Delivery, Program and Project Managers accountable for the management and execution of work across multiple strategic portfolios; including providing strategic direction, portfolio/program/project management expertise, and collaboration with executive leadership in support of PMO operations and strategy execution.
  • Develops and implements standardized portfolio, program and project management processes, tools and techniques.
  • Creates and evangelizes strategic plans to evolve the maturity of the project management office to become an enterprise PMO working with stakeholders such as Strategy Enablement, Product Management, Technology and Business leaders.
  • Accountable for an integrated set of portfolio initiatives to achieve annual execution plans, providing updates to the senior leadership team around the health and delivery of portfolio initiatives.
  • Responsible to create an enterprise view of the capital and operating expenses across all portfolios in a digestible and meaningful way that highlights dependencies to other areas and potential resource constraints.
  • Oversees continuous improvement of the resource allocation and budget management for portfolio investments.
  • Partners with Product Enablement to develop and drive adoption of Portfolio reporting and metrics to provide a data-driven, consistent view of investment decisions and provide insights to facilitate leadership decisions.
  • Provides timely communications to senior leadership and key stakeholders on overall status and roadmap for key strategic initiatives.
  • Provides the Initiative Advisory Council (IAC) routine insights into portfolio spend, capacity, and risk to ensure financial accountability across multiple investment portfolios. In addition, is able to provide the IAC the levers needed to make decisions on enterprise portfolio spend.
  • Manages annual planning and budgeting cycles across multiple investment portfolios. Includes enterprise coordination, scheduling, and facilitation through the development of best practice approaches and tools that can be applied with consistency across multiple investment portfolios.

Qualifications:

  • 12+ years w/Bachelor's degree; 3+ years management
  • 3+ years experience in leading a centralized PMO that aligns with organizational goals and drives project management excellence. Demonstrated experience in supporting/leading large-scale programs and projects/initiatives to successful completion, inclusive of managing relationships with C-Level executives.
  • Exceptional cross-functional business acumen with an understanding of all portfolios and functional areas of the business
  • Broad, future-oriented perspective, including the ability to articulately communicate potential future opportunities, outcomes, and risks
  • Exceptional communication skills, including ability to share ideas and information across diverse audiences (team level to SLT level) to drive business decisions, synthesize information clearly, and simplify complex ideas
  • Ability to inspire, influence and motivate individuals and teams across the organization
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong emotional/interpersonal intelligence and relationship management skills
  • Exhibited the ability to manage conflict, escalations, negotiating compromise and influencing others
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to operate in ambiguity through complex situations

Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity.
Pay Grade 25. $140,700 - $305,000
