Position Summary

Deloitte Tax LLP seeks a Tax Senior Manager in Morristown, NJ.

Work You'll Do

Oversee complex state tax compliance projects requiring tax analysis for a variety of entities and their affiliates. Assist clients to manage state tax liability and such challenges as states with unique tax laws, the enforcement focus of state departments of revenue, the growing number of audits, and increased merger and acquisition activity. Oversee engagement planning, economics, and billing for all engagements, and oversee proposal development effort as well as overall responsibility for each of the engagements. Serve as a subject matter expert with respect to market trends and competitor activities. Play substantive/lead role in retention of professionals and in building staff complement, mix, and recruiting. Build and nurture strong client relationships. Directly supervise the work of professional accountants serving as Tax Managers. Provide services, including business restructuring, state income and franchise tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy. Assist with client accounts through delivering all tax consulting services to the client and bringing in specialists when necessary. Assume tax-planning responsibilities for partnership, corporate, and individual clients. Oversee the selection and tailoring of approaches, methods, and tools to support service offerings or industry projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent).
  • Six years of experience as a Tax Senior Manager or related occupation gaining experience preparing and reviewing tax returns, estimates, extensions, and provisions.
  • Experience must include five years of:
    • Providing income and franchise tax consulting, tax planning, state tax audit defense, and income tax accounting services for multistate companies;
    • Utilizing expertise in tax software and tools, including Corptax, Gosystem, BNA, and CCH, to perform tax research and review multistate income tax returns for business entities;
    • Performing state taxation services, including state apportionments, based on varying state regulations;
    • Assisting with mediating between client and state revenue department to resolve state tax notices, audit, and other tax-related issues/inquiries;
    • Preparing complex tax technical memos, responding to Information Document Requests (IDRs) and various tax notices;
    • Analyzing conflict state issues, including state audit provision, multi-state corporate conversions, and tax restructuring issues;
    • Providing due diligence for state-related tax matters, including mergers and acquisitions;
    • Engaging regularly with clients on state income tax matters, including serving as a lead professional point of contact on client communications;
    • Assisting with overseeing engagement workflow, engagement team resources, and engagement billing; and
    • Mentoring and training junior team members.
  • Approximately 10% domestic travel required.
