Position Summary

The Team

Deloitte Tax LLP, National Tax Controversy Services Group ("NTCS") provides responsive, innovative, and practical resolution of matters before the Internal Revenue Service ("IRS"). The NTCS team utilizes their extensive range of skills, knowledge, and experience with IRS to assist clients through conflicts by supplementing and assisting IRS departments, legal counsel, and other tax practitioners. NTCS tax professionals help clients manage all of their global and domestic interactions with the IRS. Professionals are comprised of CPAs, Enrolled Agents, and paraprofessionals who work with clients to resolve matters such as IRS processing and customer service inquiries, procedural issues, correspondence audits, and penalty appeals. These tax professionals come from various backgrounds including industry, private practice, and the IRS.

What You Will Do

We believe that experience is invaluable in the above situations. Our IRS Campus/Account Analysis specialists all have former IRS experience. Each member of the group has a vast amount of experience in dealing with IRS tax controversy. Each member has skills and knowledge to help clients work with IRS personnel on processing, procedural, and IRS account-related matters.

We understand how IRS systems work, the documents and facts needed to address specific tax issues, methods to present those issues, and ways to resolve each tax problem. These qualities are essential for addressing the many types of tax and tax account situations companies encounter today.

Our Account Analysis professionals can advise in such areas as: Processing and monitoring Forms 1040, 1120, and 1041 refunds and tax assessments. Determine qualifications for abatement of interest and penalties and understand when special handling and monitoring of unique IRS account actions is required. These actions include but are not limited to; management of accounts for payment application issues, misapplication of extension requests, amended returns, carryback refund applications, Form 911, Request for Taxpayer Advocate Service Assistance, and all Entity related matters. On a limited basis, professionals may assist with IRS audit management.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Use your IRS expertise to provide many tax controversy services to our clients.
  • Assist client and Deloitte engagement teams with recurring IRS account-related matters.
  • Daily interaction with IRS Practitioner Priority Service and Taxpayer Advocate.
  • Prepare written correspondence to IRS and Deloitte engagement teams regarding account resolution.
  • Interact with clients and Deloitte engagement teams via e-mail and telephone regarding IRS inquiries and resolution of IRS matters.
  • Coordinate services with Deloitte offices globally.
  • Provide support for the individual and business tax return compliance process.
  • Use internal technology to update/maintain client records and prepare reports.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other business-related field
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2-3 days per week
  • Minimum 5 years of IRS Service Center/Campus experience in Accounts Management or Compliance Functions
  • Extensive working knowledge of the IRS Integrated Data Retrieval System ("IDRS")
  • Ability to research and understand the IRS methods of account resolution, desk guides, and the Internal Revenue Manual ("IRM")
  • Ability to research effectively, document case files, maintain inventory management, and have excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to travel 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
  • One of the following accreditations obtained, in process, or willing able to obtain:
    • Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA
    • If not CPA eligible:
      • Licensed Attorney
      • Enrolled Agent
      • Project Management Professional (PMP)
      • Certified Financial Advisor (CFA)
      • Professional Engineer

Preferred

  • Basic knowledge and use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of management
  • Ability to balance multiple assignments and other responsibilities
  • Professional demeanor and strong communication skills, both written and oral

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $56,880 to $85,320.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
