Manager, Sustainability - Physical Climate Risk
At Deloitte, our ESG & Sustainability Services Team provides reporting, strategic, and technical expertise to clients across various sectors on a broad spectrum of climate-related topics, including risk management, decarbonization, emissions measurement, and reporting. Our team combines climate specialists and CPAs to advise companies on emerging Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) trends and market dynamics, focusing on enhancing internal processes for collecting, analyzing, measuring, and reporting climate-related information. We are a client-facing team that designs, implements, and manages sustainability and climate risk programs for diverse clients. Work you'll do
As a Physical Climate Risk Manager, your main responsibilities will include:
- Apply climate science knowledge and climate data (e.g., CMIP6 GCM output or downscaled products) to perform detailed assessments of physical climate risks, such as extreme weather events, sea level rise, and temperature changes. Evaluate the potential impact on clients' assets, operations, and supply chains to support strategic planning and resilience-building efforts.
- Identification of climate risks and opportunities and assessment through scenario analysis across multiple time-horizons, understanding of SSPs and scenario analysis best practices
- Advise clients on climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, helping them navigate regulatory requirements and market trends. Offer insights to enhance their resilience and sustainability efforts.
- Manage projects by coordinating technical teams and communicating with clients. Ensure timely delivery of project milestones and maintain high-quality standards. Manage project scope, schedule, and budget; effectively communicate issues and solutions with teams and clients through effective written and verbal communication.
- Oversee and guide the Deloitte team as they develop strategies, review client data and conduct stakeholder interviews, glean insights, and construct and present deliverables; ensure the quality of client deliverables aligns with Deloitte's brand and reputation.
- Support corporate reporting in line with recognized ESG standards, frameworks and regulatory bodies such as the GHG Protocol, GRI, SASB, TCFD, PCAF, CDP, SEC and CSRD
- Identify opportunities for engagement value creation based on a deep understanding of client challenges and an independent point of view
- Manage existing client relationships and networks while also independently driving new market opportunities through the end-to-end bid process
- Coordinate multiple workstreams to deliver high-quality outcomes, managing client relationships effectively, and cultivating a high-performance team culture.
- Mentor and upskill team members, providing guidance and support to enhance their professional growth and expertise in climate risk assessment and management.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Climate/Earth Systems Science, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- 6+ years of professional experience in physical climate change and climate risk from a consulting firm, NGO or corporate role with demonstrated project management responsibilities.
- Sustainability certification (e.g., GRI or SASB's Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting credential) or certified public accountant (CPA) with relevant sustainability experience.
- Ability to travel 25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
Preferred:
- Graduate degree (Masters) in atmospheric science, climate/earth systems science, geophysics, civil and environmental engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience in climate risk assessment, extreme events analysis, or impact/vulnerability assessments, along with general sustainability and environmental consulting services
- Strong understanding of Earth's climate system, including the mechanisms driving climate change and variability. Knowledge of future projections of climate conditions and ability to interpret and communicate these projections to inform strategic decision-making and risk management for clients.
- Support climate scenario analysis and stress testing methodology and their integration into business process
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary groups and using interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with corporate clients.
- Experience managing multiple projects with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in client-facing roles managing engagement teams to deliver data aspects.
- Basic knowledge of ESG-related standards, frameworks, or disclosure regulations (e.g., TCFD, GHG Protocol, SASB, ISSB IFRS, EU CSRD, CA SB 261, etc.) is helpful.
- Sound understanding of climate risks across various industry sectors
- Familiarity or experience in any of the following fields is preferred: circular economy, sustainable finance, ESG due diligence, climate scenario analysis, LCA and / or ESG governance.
- Familiarity with transition risks and climate-related opportunities is beneficial.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical and efficient solutions.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities effectively. Comfortable working under changing priorities and supporting the team under pressure.
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $108,430 to $242,580.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
