Work you'll do

The Community Coordination Specialist is responsible for fostering relationships with community organizations, stakeholders, and residents to enhance community engagement and collaboration. This role involves organizing community events, facilitating communication between the organization and the community, and supporting various outreach initiatives. The specialist will build and maintain relationships with community organizations, local leaders, and residents to promote collaboration and engagement, and will organize and coordinate community events, meetings, and workshops to foster community involvement and address local issues. They will serve as a liaison between the organization and the community, ensuring clear and effective communication of programs, services, and initiatives, and will develop and implement outreach strategies to engage diverse community groups and increase awareness of the organization's mission and activities. The Community Coordination Specialist will provide support and resources to community members, addressing their needs and connecting them with appropriate services and programs, and will collect and analyze data on community needs, feedback, and participation to inform program development and improvement. They will prepare reports on community engagement activities, outcomes, and recommendations for senior management and stakeholders, and will work closely with internal departments and external partners to coordinate community-focused projects and initiatives. This role requires strong strategic communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, as well as proficiency in graphic design, advanced PowerPoint skills, and social media platforms. A solid understanding of hazard mitigation and grant management is essential. The specialist will play a key role in creating and implementing programming for the program, ensuring that community engagement efforts align with the program's goals and objectives and meet the standards set by the Client. Additionally, they will be responsible for drafting and developing strategic messaging for the constituents of the program, ensuring clear and effective communication of program goals, services, and updates.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required clearance for this role.
  • Must be local to the Tallahassee, FL area and able to come onsite in Tallahassee, FL.
  • 2+ years of professional experience.
  • 1+ year of experience in the following:
    • Hazard Mitigation Planning
    • Community Outreach Communications
    • Managing disaster grants such FEMA's Public Assistance Grant Program, FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, or HUD's Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery.
    • Grants management experience at the state, local and/or federal level supporting disaster recovery programs.

Preferred:

  • 1+ year of emergency management experience.
  • 1+ year of experience with FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program or Flood Mitigation Assistance Swift Current program.
