The Principal Solution Architect is accountable for the business solution designs for key strategic initiatives including (but not limited to) developing architectures that represent business, applications/integration, data, infrastructure, platform, and security architectures.

In this role you will act as the chief SME architect for a key strategic initiative (s) within the PCW IT tower leveraging significant enterprise experience in architecture and hands-on delivery of solutions to achieve business outcomes. This includes having the strong ability to look around the corner at emerging technologies and advise senior leadership around the strategic technical vision for the tower. You will play a key role in furthering the modernization journey for PCW IT in alignment with the Enterprise IT strategy.
*This position is open to multiple CVS locations for hybrid work model.
Accountabilities include:
- Cradle to Grave Solution Leadership: Ultimate accountability and oversight for driving solutions from cradle to grave for a given domain by providing leadership and oversight to solution engineers and architects who are intimately familiar with the application architectures within their specific domain
- Buy vs Build Analysis: In depth experience in performing Buy vs Build analysis based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis across the available options to provide a final recommendation based on the rationale
- Architecture and design reviews: Play a key leadership role in architecture design reviews and identify gaps and recommend design changes. Actively lead and participate in the Architecture community to drive modernization opportunities for the advancement of PCW technology while keeping in mind the complexities of our IT landscape
- Develop Reference architecture and implementation: Providing leadership, coaching and guidance to App Dev, develop/assemble PCW-applicable reference architectures for cloud-native applications to be applied to PCW apps targeted for refactor and optimization.
- Application profile identification: Leverage significant technical expertise and domain knowledge to identify PCW apps targeted for refactor and optimization for cloud
- Proof of concept technology support: Lead and drive proofs-of-concept and technology deep-dives specific to partner technologies
- "Roll up your sleeves and help clear technical roadblocks": Advise and assist App development teams with technical roadblocks such as performance challenges within a solution
- Cost optimization identification: Engage with appropriate stakeholders to recommend or assess opportunities to drive cost efficiencies aimed at simplicity, configurability and eventual elimination of technical debt associated with PCW applications.
- 10+ years in design/development experience
- 2+ years of hands-on cloud implementation experience
- Best in class technical subject matter expertise and domain knowledge
- SME level understanding of cloud design and architecture for one or more public cloud provider (Azure, AWS, preferably GCP) to deliver large-scale distributed solutions across the full enterprise stack
- SME level technical skills in the following areas: application and integration architecture, security and automation along with a working knowledge of IT operations
- SME level understanding of APIs and microservices-based architecture is a must
- Domain Driven Design: Be able to map the domain scope to Bounded Contexts /Microservices
- Experience working with technologies that work as glue between modern applications and legacy infrastructure leveraging streaming platforms like Apache Kafka
- Ability to collaborate with Digital, IT, EA, Ops and Security to deliver solutions
- Experience in enterprise development tools and methodologies (XP, Agile) including DevSecOps and DataOps
- Hands-on technologists with coding skills and proficient in modern technology stacks (Cloud, DevOps, Kafka etc.)
- Understanding of both SQL and NoSQL database technologies as well as Cloud database technologies.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience is a must
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Python, R with experience in ML libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn..etc.
- A strong expertise in core machine learning (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning) and deep learning models (Convolutional neural networks -CNNs, Recurrent Neural Network - RNNs, Generative adversarial network - GANs, Transformers) is required.
- Hands-on experience in customizing, data preprocessing, model training, hyperparameter tuning and fine tuning Large Language Models - LLMs (BERT, GPT, T5, LLaMA 1/2, PaLM..etc) with other generative models including SaaS LLMs on relevant dataset to meet product requirements is required.
- Experience working with SQL, NoSQL, Big data tools like Hadoop, Spark etc required to manage large datasets efficiently.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to ensure quality, reduce bias and improve model performance using metrics like F1-score, accuracy, precision, recall and loss functions.
- Experience implementing AI/GenAI solutions for ICR/OCR, Image to text, RPA, Workflow automation is required.
- Experience integrating with legacy mainframe/mid-range AS400 applications including developing roadmaps for modernization of the applications
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivelant education
- Masters Degree in Computer Science or related preferred
The typical pay range for this role is:
$144,200.00 - $288,400.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
