Aetna is seeking an Executive Director, Strategic Programs to lead the Executive Management Office team within Aetna Clinical Solutions (ACS). The Executive Management Office is responsible for providing guidance and management oversight across strategic, operational, and financial planning activities spanning a large organizational budget. This leader will be expected to successfully set the organization's annual strategic and operating plan, managing strategy execution delivery, driving annual cost optimization efforts, leading the development and implementation of high priority cross-functional initiatives in partnership with Aetna business partners, and ensuring effective culture and engagement strategies across a broad colleague base.This position leads a team responsible for project management, SVP level management deliverables, strategy & execution, colleague experience, culture, and engagement.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Partner with ACS leadership to develop and execute long and short-term strategic plans. Leads the management process for ACS results, initiatives, emerging trends, and strategy execution.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the SVP of Aetna Clinical Solutions and partner with business and shared services leaders (Network, Service Operations, Medical Affairs, HR, Finance, etc.) to plan and deliver critical initiatives and joint priorities
  • Identify issues/gaps in processes or the organization, coordinate analysis and challenge self and others to develop and implement solutions.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of critical, cross-functional and high impact projects and initiatives focused on cost and process optimization (e.g., member simplification efforts, vendor strategy, tech and digital savings opportunities, operating model changes)
  • Oversee and guide the development of ACS multi-year strategic plan, including annual goals, targets, capital requirements, and initiatives; ensure ongoing execution management and oversight, including alignment to Aetna strategic business plan
  • Lead planning and delivery of all organizational management practices and executive reporting across ACS; advise and guide teams in preparation and planning for Quarterly Business Reviews, Monthly Operating Reviews, Strategic Business Reviews, and other senior leadership meetings
  • Guide the development and execution of the ACS communications and colleague experience strategy (e.g., employee recognitions, site visits, town halls, clinical thought leadership, culture trainings and development opportunities)
The candidate will have a strong work ethic, be a self-starter, and be able to be highly productive in a dynamic, fast paced environment. This position offers broad exposure to the Aetna business, as well as significant interaction with cross-functional business leaders. The candidate will be expected to have the following key attributes:
  • 10+ years leadership experience and technical/functional expertise within healthcare management in several of the following areas: management consulting, financial analysis, project management, and or operations management
  • Successful experience in strategy, innovation and/or strategic investment/portfolio management within healthcare industry
  • Experience with project management with high degree of complexity
  • Keen ability to distill complex ideas into simpler frameworks
  • Ability to synthesize vision into execution priorities and deliver on concurrent initiatives
  • Strong financial acumen, with budgetary development, oversight and reporting experience
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Align with the Heart at Work Behaviors and demonstrate a commitment to strong culture and engagement practices
  • Expertise with influencing and navigating a highly matrixed environment to drive new strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams to ensure high standards of performance and outcomes
Preferred
  • Expertise within clinical and health plan operations including Utilization Management, Care Management, Quality, Compliance and Regulatory Management
  • Proven experience creating governance and process for a complicated national function
  • Ability to travel to meet business needs (15-20%)
Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:$131,500.00 - $303,195.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
