The Executive Director of Population Health is the key physician business leader responsible for the organization's medical services programs. The incumbent will provide oversight of, support, and maintain these programs, as well as drive innovation in service of value-based care principles and outcomes.
Together with the clinical teams, product and analytics teams is responsible for developing and implementing integrated models of care management programs and services that improve beneficiary health and experience, drive quality, create clinical efficiencies, and control medical costs. In addition, the Executive Director of Population Health applies their understanding of clinical practice, healthcare policy and financing, risk-based provider relationships, and evolving reimbursement models and integration strategy to promote partnerships with providers, third-party specialized vendors, community organizations and other key ACO stakeholders.
Strong leadership and team building skills across a highly matrixed organization are required. Prioritization and communication skills are critical to success, as managing the expectations of other leaders across the organization in support of their strategies is imperative.
The Executive Director of Population Health reports to the Chief Medical Officer and is accountable for achieving business results in areas of responsibility within the ACO and in support of CVS AC's strategic goals. Areas of functional responsibility include clinical quality, support of care management and care coordination teams, clinical integration with ACO provider partners including practice transformation and partner programs. This role is accountable to drive outcomes using targeted analysis of population health data and collaborative provider partner relationships. Experience implementing advanced analytic workflow changes and innovative population health solutions will be preferred in this search.
Key responsibilities/essential functions
- Leverages medical and business expertise and works collaboratively with leaders across CVS AC to achieve strategic quality, experience, and cost business results. Provides thought leadership and strategic subject matter expertise on matters related to Population Health Management.
- Works collaboratively with teams within the CMO organization to develop consistent, evidence-based care management efficacy, reporting and analytics, and potential new program interventions.
- Provides leadership and support to teams of clinical leaders and other professionals, organizing talent and resources to deliver results and achieve strategic goals while establishing/maintaining a collaborative and mission-driven team culture.
- Advises and informs enterprise and partner clinical leaders of business activities, performance, risks, opportunities, and recommended courses of action.
- Drives integration of clinical and quality strategy with ACO partners and other provider organizations, working in a triad model with ACO Operations and Partner Success leaders to meet long term goals of collaborative, value-based reimbursement arrangements.
- Actively collaborates and partners with the Chief Medical Officer, and ACO Senior Leadership to ensure alignment of clinical initiatives.
- Participates in the delivery of provider partner education programs.
- Actively promotes and supports professional advancement and career development among team members.
- Maintains knowledge of industry trends by developing and maintaining relationships with industry and community groups.
- Represents CVS AC to external constituents.
Required Qualifications
EXPERIENCE:
- At least 7 years of recent or current clinical care delivery in a primary care discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years of related experience with progressive leadership roles in ACO, managed health care, clinical programs, services, or administration.
- Experience working with provider entities and ACOs under value-based arrangements and progressive or alternative payment models.
- Must have advanced knowledge of and experience with CMS/CMMI and Medicare programs including experience providing services in either or both Medicare programs and/or programs for dually-eligible beneficiaries.
- Knowledge of clinical management, project management, and process improvement and design required.
- Success in establishing external relationships with provider groups and community stakeholders.
- Experience implementing rapid cycle advanced analytics-driven workflow changes and innovative solutions.

Education
- M.D. or D.O. is required.
- Current, unencumbered licensure in at least one U.S. state is required.
- Advanced degree in business or health-related discipline is preferred.
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$184,112.50 - $396,550.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
