And we do it all with heart, each and every day.As the Executive Director of Enterprise Automation and Innovation, this role will be responsible for leading the CVS Health Enterprise-wide Automation COE, which provides end to end platform support for our premier automation solutions from intake, design, license and infrastructure requirements through production support and decommissioning.This role will lead a large organization of software engineers, business analysts, and automation experts, as well as support hundreds of distributed citizen bot developers across the enterprise.The Executive director will drive the strategy, vision, and execution of the Automation COE, ensuring alignment with the business goals and objectives of CVS Health. All of this culminates in millions of hours saved and exponential productivity acceleration for the enterprise. This role will foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer-centricity within your team and across the enterprise.While keeping an eye out for the advancements in the automation and augmentation technologies, this role will continue to support and evolve our existing Robotics Process Automation (RPA) platforms from a compliance, capacity and performance perspective.An ideal candidate has the ability to handle complex platform delivery functions and must also be able to manage vendors effectively and hold them to the CVS standards we promote. Additionally, this role will ensure proper staffing for completion of PS Solutions Engineering and Automation objectives and administer HR functions including hiring, evaluating, mentoring and, as necessary, terminating employees.Key responsibilities:

- Strategic Vision and Leadership: Set the vision and strategy for the enterprise automation (including Robotics Process Automation) within the Pharmacy Services organization. Represent the Enterprise Automation organization at a strategic level, reporting on progress, capabilities, etc to ensure adherence to goals
- Incubation Program Leadership: Actively drive the end-to-end incubation process to drive hyper-automation, from idea generation and validation to prototype development and market launch. The goal is to drive the Automation and Augmentation initiatives of the Pharmacy Services organization.
- Technology Exploration & Evaluation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies (AI, machine learning, data analytics, Agentic AI automation, evolution of RPA as a technology) and assess their potential application to the PBM business as focus, while providing enabling services to the enterprise as a whole. Conduct technology feasibility studies and develop proof-of-concepts by partnering with technology teams.
- Financial Modeling and Execution: Oversee generation of budgets and chargeback models to support operations. Manage the budget for the enterprise COE which includes 3+ million dollars in software licensing, a multimillion-dollar bot charge back model and a capital budget.
- Cross Functional Collaboration: Manage all associated procurement and finance matters with regard to budget adherence. Collaborate with the Project Management Office and Finance to ensure proper project reporting, costing and escalation.
- Team Contributor: Contribute as a Solutions Engineering and Automation Leadership Team member helping to incorporate our collective resources to the most effective and efficient operating model to serve the needs of the CVS business community.
- Effective Capacity Planning: Ensure proper maintenance and management of platforms to accommodate current and future use cases
- External Vendor Management: Act as technical oversight for vendor relationships, contract negotiations and supplier payment for all RPA-related services/products
- Effective Human Resources Management: Lead, manage, and mentor an organization with teams of software engineers, business analysts, scrum masters, architects, and automation experts, ensuring high performance, quality, and delivery of the automation solutions. Oversee the end-to-end platform support for the RPA COE, including infrastructure, security, governance, compliance, and scalability. Stay abreast of the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in the automation domain, and evaluate and adopt new solutions as appropriate. Ensure specific roles and staffing levels for both FTE and contract resources is sufficient to meet the needs for both the core development team and support of existing solution platforms
- Effective Governance: Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place to support compliance with overarching corporate procedures. Drive internal participation in completion of any related audits. Establish clear processes, metrics, and governance to ensure the program's effectiveness.
- Continuous improvements and performance management: Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and automation of the RPA COE processes, tools, and capabilities. Measure and report on the value, impact, and ROI of the RPA COE, leveraging data and analytics.
- Strong demonstrable experience working with AI/ML, RPA, GenAI, or automation technologies.
- Strong understanding of Automation platforms and capabilities, specifically including UiPath and/or Automation Anywhere
- Minimum of 15 years of experience as a leader of high-performing teams, managing a team of 25-50 technical personnel; Experience should include hiring, mentoring, goal setting, performance reviews and dismissals.
- Ability to cast a multi-year strategic vision, as well as a pragmatic approach for achieving that vision in a measurable and predictable way.
- Deep understanding (preferably demonstrable hands-on experience) of emerging AI technologies and their potential application to the healthcare industry.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for innovation and a willingness to challenge the status quo. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and agile environment.
- Experience with lean startup methodologies and agile development practices.
- Specific experience setting and managing operational and capital budgets as well as procurement processes
- Excellent contract negotiation skills for effectively managing both labor and product vendors
- Effective written and oral communication skills to convey both strategic and tactical objectives
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse set of clients and vendors across multiple disciplines
- Strong Problem-Solving and Analytics skills to understand complex requirements, define advanced technical/functional solutions, troubleshoot issues, and identify fixes
- Passion for innovation, automation, and customer-centricity.
- Experience in measuring and reporting on the value, impact, and ROI of RPA solutions, leveraging data and analytics.
- Demonstrated desire for continuous improvement and learning
- Familiarity with process mapping/mining tools, low-code/no-code platforms.
- Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM), Retail Pharmacy and/or Healthcare experience
- Bachelor's degree required
- Master's degree preferred (MBA, MS in a related field)
- Certifications in related automation platforms preferred
The typical pay range for this role is:$175,100.00 - $334,750.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
