DESCRIPTION

This applied science position utilizes the core competencies of thermal and fluid sciences, using and advancing analytical and experimental approaches to answer key questions about the performance and architecture of a system or component. This drives decisions and creates technical content that ultimately leads to state-of-the-art, highly effective, environmentally friendly, and competitive products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtains input and negotiates with stakeholders such as engineers, technical managers, project leaders, product and manufacturing engineers, and supplier partners. Delivers information, guidance, and recommendations to support project decisions related to analysis, design optimization, feasibility studies, or architecture definition.
  • Conducts analysis, testing, and communication with stakeholders to ensure successful project progression.
  • Applies and supports the improvement of processes such as Pre-Program Planning (PPP), Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), Value Package Change (VPC), Engineering Standard Work (ESW), and Functional Excellence Practice (FEP).
  • Utilizes thermal and fluid sciences tools such as GT-Suite, Boost, Fluent, Converge, Concerto, CyberApps, Cummins Data Analysis Tool (CDAT), test data calculation, DARTS, test data storage, Calterm, ECM calibration tool, Emissions data system, Integrity, and ACCEPTS ECM in-loop test bench.
  • Provides independent leadership for projects with significant business impact and ownership of complex components, products, systems, or services with elements of ambiguity.
  • Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across functional disciplines.
  • Coordinates and directs work among technicians and student employees while assisting in knowledge transfer to lesser experienced engineers.
  • Provides technical direction within project teams and continues developing proficiency in key competency areas.
  • Operates as a recognized specialist within the immediate team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Skills, and Experience:

  • System Performance Integration Engineer / Lead: Accountable for system performance of I.C. Engines & Aftertreatment Systems for On-HW, Off-HW, and stationary automotive applications. Leads cross-functional teams to develop system performance for end applications.
  • Experience: 7-12 years of hands-on experience in areas such as Engine Performance & Emissions Development, Aftertreatment Performance & Emissions Development, or Controls in the automotive field preferred.
  • Additional Experience: Emissions certification & compliance, problem-solving techniques, IDFMEA, and system simulation experience is an added advantage.
  • Future Technologies Exposure: Knowledge of future technologies in engines such as fuel systems and turbocharger technologies for future regulations.
  • Technical Competencies:
  • Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer: Ability to interpret and predict performance using modeling and experimental tools.
  • Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion Systems: Understanding energy conversion systems such as IC engines, gas turbines, fuel cells, and batteries.
  • Product Failure Mode Avoidance: Identifying potential failure modes and improving product reliability.
  • Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis: Utilizing computational tools to impact product design decisions.
  • Problem-Solving: Root cause analysis and implementation of robust, data-based solutions.
  • System Requirements Engineering: Translating stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements.
  • Systems Thinking: Understanding system linkages and predicting behavior for modifications.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an appropriate STEM field is required. A postgraduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline may be required for select roles.
