DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Technical Advisor - Powertrain Electrification Controls to join our team specializing in Engineering in Columbus, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Problem Investigation and Resolution : Investigate electronic application and systems issues, understand causal mechanisms, recommend actions, and document results, ensuring effective problem resolution.
- Process Management and Improvement : Create, manage, and enhance electronic application and systems development processes and tools, including system specification, modeling, simulation, calibration, DVP&R, and troubleshooting.
- Stakeholder Collaboration : Gather input from customers, technical and product teams, manufacturing engineers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to provide recommendations that lead to high-quality product decisions.
- Design and Calibration Decisions : Make critical decisions in electronic and electrical system design, requirements, calibration, and testing, impacting the quality and performance of subsystems.
- Mentorship and Review : Review the work of less-experienced developers and testers to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient designs, while providing mentorship and guidance.
- Project Leadership : Lead the development and improvement of work processes and systems across functions within a global business unit, managing complex projects and coordinating technical teams.
- Technical Expertise and Knowledge Transfer : Operate as a recognized specialist in a discipline or product area, coaching and mentoring other engineers, project managers, and cross-functional team members.
- Problem Resolution Leadership : Provide leadership in resolving complex systems issues with a high degree of ambiguity and global business impact, ensuring effective solutions and continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems : Specify and apply electronic hardware and interconnections to measure and control systems within Cummins' products.
- Machine Integration and Optimization : Combine various parts or sub-systems to achieve optimal performance, reliability, cost, and quality, using Cummins' standard tools and best practices.
- Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis : Utilize computational tools and methods to predict and influence product design decisions at the system, sub-system, and component levels.
- Product Problem Solving : Implement robust, data-based solutions to product problems, determine root causes, and recommend actions to prevent recurrence, ensuring customer protection.
- System Requirements Engineering : Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements, establish acceptance criteria, and manage the impact of changes throughout the system lifecycle.
- Systems Thinking : Define and analyze the system of interest, understand its behavior, and devise modifications to achieve desired outcomes.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
- College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
- Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
- Prior Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making and providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s).
- Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
Additional Information:
- Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred.
- Candidate must have Controls algorithm development experience.
- The Research and Technology organization is seeking candidates to advance the state of the art in electrified powertrains for the commercial vehicle industry. Successful candidate will lead the control system development for one or more PPT projects, including coordination of project plans, resources and handoff material. Define control methodologies and processes to establish the best practices for powertrain and electrification controls. Define the technical direction for the powertrain and electrification controls across multiple R&T projects. Develop strategic roadmaps for electrified powertrain controls to advance the state of the art and respond to business initiatives. Coach and mentor controls engineers. Champion continuous improvement in processes and tools for controls development. The candidate will lead analysis and controls development of next generation electrified powertrains including: concept development, controls and powertrain architecture entitlement studies, detailed model development and validation, performance and emission studies, hardware-in-loop (HIL) tests and demonstrations.
- Successful candidates will have a high level of expertise in advanced control methodologies, simulation based controls development and verification and validation in test cells and test vehicles and have a good understanding of electrified powertrain technologies and components. Excellent coding and simulation skills (Matlab and Simulink preferred) will be required. Good understanding of powertrain components and system integration, testing, and debugging (hardware in the loop, test cell and test vehicles) will be preferred. High level of analytical ability and systematic approach towards new problems will be helpful. Prior experience leading the control algorithm or system development for a small project or a subset of a large project
