We are looking for a talented STW - Test Engineer to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Troy, MI.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Supporting Test Operations : By assisting in the setup, running, and inspection of vehicle and mechanical lab-based tests, you'll ensure smooth and efficient test operations.
- Collaborating with Technicians and Engineers : Your support to Test Technicians and Engineers will enhance the overall effectiveness and accuracy of test procedures.
- Documenting Test Processes : Accurate documentation of test setups and results will contribute to maintaining high standards of data integrity and traceability.
- Managing Instrumentation and Logistics : Handling instrumentation and test part logistics will ensure that all necessary equipment and parts are available and functioning correctly.
- Ensuring Asset Management and Compliance : By managing assets and ensuring quality compliance through calibrations and documentation, you'll help maintain the reliability and accuracy of testing equipment.
- Analyzing Test Data : Your analysis of test data for defined processes will provide valuable insights and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintaining Lab Cleanliness and Safety : Keeping the lab area clean and safe will create a productive and hazard-free work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Educational Background : Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering is ideal, but other degrees may be considered if you have relevant experience.
Engineering Skills : Proficiency in basic engineering skills such as using Excel spreadsheets, programming, and mathematics will be essential for data analysis and problem-solving.
Vehicle Knowledge : A solid understanding of vehicles and their subsystems will help you effectively contribute to vehicle and mechanical lab-based tests.
Mechanical Skills : Basic mechanical skills and the ability to use proper tools to assemble test parts according to engineering drawings are crucial for setting up and running tests accurately.
Attention to Detail : Precise documentation of test setups and results will ensure data integrity and support quality compliance.
Technical Aptitude : Being comfortable with instrumentation and test part logistics will help you manage the necessary equipment and parts efficiently.
Analytical Thinking : The ability to analyze test data for defined processes will provide valuable insights and support continuous improvement efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS
Overview:
As a Test Engineering Team member, the School-to-Work (STW) / Co-op will be responsible for assisting in the setup, running, and inspection of vehicle and mechanical lab based tests.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Test Technicians and Engineers with the setup and running of vehicle and mechanical lab based tests.
- Documentation of test setup and results.
- Instrumentation and test part logistics.
- Asset management and quality compliance (calibrations and documentation).
- Test data analysis for defined processes.
- Lab area cleanliness and safety.
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Other degrees will be considered based on experience.
- Basic Engineering skills such as Excel Spreadsheets, programming, and mathematics.
- Knowledge of vehicles and vehicle subsystems.
- Must have basic mechanical skills and ability to use the proper tools to assemble test parts according to engineering drawings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Willingness to work in a hands-on laboratory environment.
- SAE vehicle competition experience (Formula SAE, Baja SAE, etc.) a plus.
- Automotive knowledge a plus.
