DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented STW - Mechanical Engineering Intern (Student) to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Troy, MI.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Applying Academic Knowledge: Utilize your mechanical engineering studies to support the engineering department, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
  • Supporting Engineering Projects: Assist engineers on various trailer, front axle, and rear axle projects, contributing to the development and improvement of these components.
  • Performing Engineering Analysis: Conduct necessary engineering analysis for the production design and testing of axle/suspension components using CAE tools like Creo, Simulate, and Ansys.
  • Meeting Customer Requirements: Support all aspects of engineering to meet customer requirements, focusing on project timing, product design, test plans, and prototype builds.
  • Collaborating with Designers: Work closely with designers to release detailed drawing packages, ensuring accuracy and completeness in the design documentation.
  • Interfacing with Various Groups: Establish good working relationships with team members, outside suppliers, and various internal groups, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.
  • Learning Under Supervision: Gain valuable insights and practical experience by working under close supervision, preparing you for a successful engineering career after graduation.
  • Contributing to Continuous Improvement: Bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the team, helping to improve processes and outcomes in engineering projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Knowledge of Static and Dynamic Analysis: A solid understanding of static analysis and familiarity with the fundamentals of dynamic and kinematic studies to analyze and design mechanical systems effectively.
  • Understanding of Drivetrain Components: Comprehensive knowledge of vehicular drivetrain components and their applications to ensure proper design and functionality in engineering projects.
  • Technical Expertise in Vehicle Performance: Technical knowledge of vehicle performance criteria to evaluate and improve the performance of various vehicle systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Strong skills in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, to create reports, presentations, and documentation efficiently.
  • Effective Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills to convey technical information clearly and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Education/Experience

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

  • This position requires on-site work in Troy, MI on a weekly basis.
