DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented School to Work - Engineering to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Troy, MI.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Innovative thinking: Ability to support advanced engineering projects with creative solutions in mechatronics and mechanical systems.
  • Practical testing skills: Hands-on experience in conducting vehicle and laboratory tests to validate and optimize designs.
  • Data analysis proficiency: Expertise in analyzing sensor data from lab and vehicle tests to derive actionable insights.
  • Attention to detail: Precision in performing clearance studies to ensure proper fit and function of components.
  • Programming expertise: Strong skills in writing code in C/C++ and Python to develop and enhance software solutions.
  • Technical knowledge: Understanding of mechanical components and systems used in Cummins-Meritor products, such as brakes, steer axles, drive axles, and suspensions.
  • Problem-solving abilities: Capability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during design and testing phases.
  • Collaboration skills: Ability to work effectively with project and product engineers, contributing to a cohesive and productive team environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Academic knowledge application : Ability to apply theoretical knowledge from your studies to real-world engineering tasks.
  • Interpersonal skills : Effective communication and collaboration with project engineers, test labs, production facilities, and internal engineering groups.
  • Analytical skills : Proficiency in providing engineering analysis for new or existing components and writing detailed engineering reports.
  • Technical drawing skills : Competence in creating 2-D CAD drawings and 3-D math models to support design change requests (DCRs) and product change control requests (PCCRs).
  • Benchmarking abilities : Capability to assist in product benchmarking analysis to compare and improve product performance.
  • Simulation expertise : Experience or willingness to learn simulation techniques, including finite element analysis (FEA) and dynamic modeling.
  • Adaptability : Flexibility to take on various tasks as required by your manager, demonstrating a proactive and versatile approach.
  • Learning mindset : Eagerness to learn and grow under close supervision, gaining valuable insights and skills that can be applied after graduation.

Education/Experience

  • Student pursuing a bachelor's degree of Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Information

  • Goes beyond task completion, demonstrates a proactive and analytical mindset by actively engaging in understanding the underlying principles of assigned projects and proposing insightful improvements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Understanding of vehicular drivetrain components and their application is a plus
  • Familiarity with design software such as Pro-E is a plus.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition tools and activities is a plus.
  • Experience with C/C++ and python programming is a plus

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The

final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate's

qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
