DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Product Functional Test Instrumentation Tech - Level III to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Fridley, MN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Ensure System Reliability : By installing, configuring, and calibrating instrumentation systems, you'll ensure they operate reliably and accurately.
  • Optimize Performance : Your ability to troubleshoot and repair issues as they occur will minimize downtime and maintain optimal performance of systems.
  • Enhance Data Accuracy : Maintaining and calibrating data acquisition systems will ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data collected.
  • Innovate and Improve : Developing new technology and specifying new equipment will drive innovation and improve existing processes.
  • Support Engineering Activities : By installing and troubleshooting PCs and PC networks, you'll support the broader instrumentation engineering activities.
  • Train and Mentor : Working with and training apprentices and technicians will help build a skilled and knowledgeable team.
  • Maintain Documentation : Creating and maintaining electronic documentation will ensure that all processes and systems are well-documented and easy to reference.
  • Coordinate Efficiently : Coordinating programs, including planning, scheduling, and tracking, will ensure that projects are completed efficiently and on time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Strong Documentation Skills : Clearly organize and present testing methods, instrument settings, data, and analysis to ensure engineers and customers can understand the results and make accurate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Technical Proficiency : Interpret test equipment specifications from standards or customer requirements, and select and integrate the appropriate equipment, instrumentation, and software to control boundary conditions and collect measurement data.
  • Effective Test Setup : Interpret test plans to determine the optimal location and orientation within a test space, adhering to local safety and environmental requirements, and fabricate the required system with appropriate materials.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities : Use systematic analysis processes and industry-standard methodologies to solve problems, mentor others in effective problem-solving, determine assignable causes, implement robust, data-based solutions, and identify systemic root causes to prevent recurrence.
  • Continuous Learning : Stay updated with the latest technologies, methodologies, and industry standards to continuously improve your skills and the quality of your work.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.

Regionally applicable certification or two-year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations .

Experience:

Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Information:

  • Possess intermediate technical experience and ability to diagnose electrical and mechanical problems in a test cell.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and calibration of test equipment.
  • Intermediate understanding of engines, alternators, and controls.
  • Use logistics equipment (powered industrial vehicles, PIV) to aid in performing work as required.
  • Installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting all emissions testing equipment and emissions testing-related supplies at the Fridley facility.
  • Assist calibration staff with the management of all Engineering M&TE assets.
  • Lead the installation and commissioning of test equipment during capital improvement projects.
  • Produce and maintain excellent record keeping and documentation of processes, solutions and equipment-specific information.
  • Scripting and programming for machine control, communications and data processing.
