DESCRIPTION

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creo Software : Proficient user level for 3D modeling, assembly, and drawing creation.
  • Model and Drawing Creation :
  • Create complex models and drawings.
  • Perform checking for drawings and models.
  • Ensure model and drawing quality.
  • Create and maintain product specifications utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Utilize Computer Aided Design (CAD) data management tools for configuration control and to maintain security.
  • Ensure application of company, industry, national, and international standards.
  • Process internal engineering work requests.
  • Engage with required functional areas as needed.
  • Participate in the maintenance of standards and practices which ensure quality.
  • Mentor and train less experienced Product Designers.
  • Check models and drawings prior to release.
  • Create assemblies to ensure fit to mating parts.
  • Work with engineering to generate concept models.
  • Participate in and/or lead Drawing Quality Reviews.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Competencies:

  • Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis : Creates CAD models in accordance with Cummins' standards to represent architectural or product-level system design concepts, enabling completion of various system-level computer analyses such as Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems : Acquires and applies an in-depth understanding of mechanical systems through working knowledge that guides a designer's ability to create innovative and sound design concepts to meet Cummins and customer expectations.
  • Mechanical Design Specification : Creates complete specifications in the form of solid models, configured engineering bill of materials, and detailed drawings that cross-functionally communicate the information required to manufacture and inspect a product per its design intent.
  • Product Configuration and Change Management : Establishes a baseline of identified product artifacts to be placed under configuration management; releases, tracks, controls, and communicates changes from concept to obsolescence often through work requests.
  • Communicates Effectively : Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
  • Decision Quality : Making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education, or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Regionally applicable certification or a two-year Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

  • Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training, or on-the-job experience.
