DESCRIPTION

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Ensuring Model and Drawing Quality : By creating complex models and drawings and performing thorough checks, you will maintain high standards of accuracy and quality.
  • Maintaining Product Specifications : Utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, you will create and maintain precise product specifications.
  • Managing CAD Data : Using CAD data management tools, you will ensure configuration control and maintain data security.
  • Adhering to Standards : You will ensure the application of company, industry, national, and international standards in all your work.
  • Processing Engineering Requests : By efficiently processing internal engineering work requests, you will support the smooth operation of engineering projects.
  • Collaborating Across Functions : Engaging with required functional areas as needed, you will facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
  • Mentoring and Training : By mentoring and training less experienced Product Designers, you will contribute to the development of your team.
  • Participating in Quality Reviews : Leading and participating in Drawing Quality Reviews, you will help maintain and improve the quality of designs and drawings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Master Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis : Create CAD models that adhere to Cummins' standards, enabling system-level analyses like Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Understand Mechanical Systems : Develop a deep understanding of mechanical systems to create innovative and robust design concepts that meet both Cummins and customer expectations across all lifecycle stages.
  • Create Detailed Specifications : Produce comprehensive specifications, including solid models, engineering bill of materials, and detailed drawings, ensuring they meet national, international, industry, and Cummins' standards.
  • Manage Product Configuration and Changes : Establish and maintain the integrity of product baselines, effectively managing changes from concept to obsolescence through work requests.
  • Communicate Effectively : Develop and deliver clear, multi-mode communications tailored to the unique needs of different audiences.
  • Make Quality Decisions : Make timely and sound decisions that keep projects and the organization moving forward.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.

Regionally applicable certification or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Core responsibilities or activities unique to the role

  • Drive clear, unambiguous print creation utilizing DVA's and appropriate GD&T meeting ASME and internal CES standards (Components/sub-assembly)
  • Negotiate & drive alignment by using sound technical background with suppliers during DQR's & DFM's with manufacturing (process, standards, tolerance)

Skill, Education, or Experience preferences needed for the role

  • Utilize 6S tools (Common examples: PUGH, RACI, C&E, FTA, RCA)
  • Experience using CREO or equivalent CAD software
  • Mentor and train less experienced design technicians and engineers in training
  • Advanced data management using formula based logic or macro in Excel
