DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Design Drafter to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Fridley, MN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Enhancing Product Quality : By creating and maintaining high-quality specifications, drawings, and models, you'll ensure Cummins products meet rigorous standards.
  • Ensuring Compliance : Your work will adhere to company, industry, national, and international standards, ensuring compliance and reliability.
  • Mentoring and Training : By mentoring and training less experienced Product Designers, you'll help build a stronger, more knowledgeable team.
  • Improving Efficiency : Utilizing CAD data management tools for configuration control and security will streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Supporting Engineering : Engaging with engineering to generate concept models and participating in Drawing Quality Reviews will support the development of innovative products.
  • Maintaining Standards : Participating in the maintenance of standards and practices will ensure ongoing quality and consistency in product design.
  • Checking and Validating : By checking models and drawings prior to release, you'll prevent errors and ensure the accuracy of product specifications.
  • Facilitating Collaboration : Engaging with various functional areas as needed will foster collaboration and ensure that all aspects of product design are aligned.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Proficiency in CAD Modeling : Create detailed Computer Aided Design (CAD) models that adhere to Cummins' standards, enabling system-level analyses like Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis.
  • In-depth Mechanical Systems Knowledge : Develop a thorough understanding of mechanical systems to design innovative and robust concepts that meet both Cummins' and customer expectations across all lifecycle stages.
  • Specification Creation : Produce comprehensive specifications, including solid models, engineering bills of materials, and detailed drawings, ensuring they meet national, international, industry, and Cummins' standards.
  • Product Configuration and Change Management : Establish and maintain product baselines, manage changes from concept to obsolescence, and ensure clear communication and control throughout the process.
  • Complex Problem-Solving : Navigate and make sense of complex, high-volume, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
  • Attention to Detail : Ensure the accuracy and quality of models and drawings, preventing errors and ensuring the design intent is clearly communicated.
  • Collaboration and Communication : Engage with various functional areas and stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication throughout the design and development process.
  • Continuous Self-Development : Actively seek opportunities for growth and challenge yourself through both formal and informal development channels.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.

Regionally applicable certification or two-year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Information:

  • 4-8 years' experience as CAD Designer, preferred
  • Experience with CREO Schematic adds value
  • CREO (8.0 or higher) & Windchill
  • Cabling & Harness creating
  • Understands principles of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing

Compensation:

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate's qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
