DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Powertrain and Hybrid Controls Technical Project Leader to join our team specializing in Technical Leadership. This is a hybrid role ideally located in Columbus, IN.

The Powertrain and Hybrid Controls Technical Project Leader will lead the development of Cummins' next-generation hybrid powertrain controls by collaborating with diverse stakeholders from multiple business units, including Accelera and the Engine Business Unit, in a dynamic environment. This leader will be responsible for developing a versatile hybrid controls strategy to address the global requirements of the Engine Business Unit (EBU) and Power Systems Business Unit (PSBU), as well as various vehicle OEMs and applications.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Engage with program leadership, customers, and various teams to deliver robust designs and coordinate deliverables for new or current product changes.
  • Work closely with preferred partner suppliers, manufacturing, purchasing, technical leadership, and marketing teams to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.
  • Make informed decisions on design and project risk trade-offs that balance cost, delivery, and quality expectations.
  • Utilize business processes like Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), and Current Product Support (CPS) to drive high-quality decision-making.
  • Provide leadership for complex global technical challenges, setting direction for process and system improvements across functions and business units.
  • Direct cross-functional, often global project teams, ensuring effective collaboration and project execution.
  • Mentor and coach future technical leaders, contributing to talent development and potentially influencing academic or industry leadership in your area of expertise.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Effectively plan, schedule, and execute product development activities while ensuring alignment with requirements and technical profiles. Utilize modeling, simulation, and analysis tools to inform design decisions and predict product capabilities.
  • Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements, establish acceptance criteria, and manage changes throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Apply systems thinking to define and analyze the system of interest, predict behavior, and devise modifications.
  • Build and maintain networks, communicate effectively, address difficult issues with courage, and make timely decisions.
  • Develop talent, manage complexity, persuade stakeholders, and maintain a strategic mindset.
  • Ensure project management balances scope, schedule, and resources, and recognize the value of diverse perspectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science
  • Detailed knowledge of hybrid powertrain operation
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and influence long-term powertrain product strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large (8+) team of software and controls engineers
  • Detailed knowledge of electric vehicle architectures, systems and components, deep background in the development of embedded control for real-time critical systems
  • Knowledge of embedded software development tools and concepts, basic understanding of AUTOSAR software framework, MATLAB simulation, and demonstrated experience with configuration tools.
  • Basic knowledge of Software Defined Vehicle (SDV), connectivity, digital and cloud-based concepts

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate's qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
