DESCRIPTION

Functions as a Team Lead and/or performs analyses, data acquisition and interpretation, technical reporting, and maintenance of Electronic Engineering tools and standard and specialized test equipment, while positively impacting the organization's performance.

Actively functions as the team lead for all laboratory work priorities and activities, equipment and instruments calibrations and maintenance, technical reporting and documentation, and interfacing with departmental management, customers, engineers, and other teams.

Provides technical expertise and support for planning, scheduling, and testing on Electronic Systems test equipment and/or vehicles.

Utilizes advanced skills and technical expertise to perform analyses and data acquisition, provide interpretation of results, and write technical reports.

Actively mentors and trains other technicians in the use of specialized analytical instruments and equipment and test methods.

Leads, develops and applies advanced test methods to improve laboratory capabilities on specialized analytical instruments and equipment.

Ensures interactions with customers, suppliers, engineers and other functions; develops and gives technical presentations.

Ensures maintenance of quality procedures and work instructions.

Leads and participates in improvement projects; demonstrates adaptability and responsiveness to changing work needs and willingness to undertake new tasks.

Leads and participates in self and team audits and associated corrective actions.

Performs other duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:

Actively functions as the team lead for all laboratory work priorities and activities, equipment and instruments calibrations and maintenance, technical reporting and documentation, and interfacing with departmental management, customers, engineers, and other teams. Provides technical expertise and support for planning, scheduling, and testing on Electronic Systems test equipment and/or vehicles. Utilizes advanced skills and technical expertise to perform analyses and data acquisition, provide interpretation of results, and write technical reports. Actively mentors and trains other technicians in the use of specialized analytical instruments and equipment and test methods. Leads, develops and applies advanced test methods to improve laboratory capabilities on specialized analytical instruments and equipment. Ensures interactions with customers, suppliers, engineers and other functions; develops and gives technical presentations. Ensures maintenance of quality procedures and work instructions. Leads and participates in improvement projects; demonstrates adaptability and responsiveness to changing work needs and willingness to undertake new tasks. Leads and participates in self and team audits and associated corrective actions. Performs other duties as required.

Certifies/tests lab for electro-static discharge effectiveness.

Works with other organizations to obtain support with parts, mechanical support, calibrations, etc; works with outside vendors.

Assists with test and test procedure design.

Troubleshoots circuits of advanced complexity.

Designs, builds, tests and troubleshoots prototype electronic circuits, harnesses and assemblies.

Troubleshoots and tests current products; prepares and conducts product demonstrations.

Generates documentation using appropriate application software.

Manages lab work requests; documents and administers workflows.

Completes schedules, planning, reviews, and releases.

Develops test result report formats.

Trains and leads other technicians and technical support specialists assigned to the lab.

Understands and apply appropriate Company and department rules and guidelines to work and to systems; participate in the maintenance of quality procedures.

Develops and conducts training programs; provide counseling, mentoring, and coaching.

Serves as company representatives in various capacities to customers, suppliers, and outside agencies.

Interacts effectively with all s of employees throughout the company.

Exercises independent decision-making and initiative in determining what needs to be done and planning and implementing the needed activities; perform problem solving, creative technical and analytical work, budget management, and hands-on applications; coordinate programs including planning, scheduling, ordering, and tracking.

Demonstrates adaptability and responsiveness to changing work needs and willingness to undertake new tasks as they become evident; initiate, develop, lead, and participate in improvements projects.

Knows and comply with all safety policies and procedures; demonstrates confidentiality as required.

Shares work with exempt and other OCU employees as required.

Manages own work and maintain a flexible schedule in order to meet the demands of priority work; participate in self-and team-audits and associated corrective action; plan and engage in continuous learning in order to be prepared for changing work demands.

Travels as required by the position.

Performs other miscellaneous duties, as required, to get the job done.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.

Regionally applicable certification or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

High School diploma, GED or equivalent required with Department of Labor Certification OR Associates degree from an accredited program in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience OR Bachelors degree in a related field.

Experience:

Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

Department of Labor Certification OR four year experience/education requirement accomplished through either Bachelors degree in related field OR associates degree in related field and at least two years of relevant experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities:

  • Test electronic devices including engine control modules, powertrain control modules, sensors and other electronic hardware
  • Setup and run an oscilloscope to test electronic devices and circuits
  • Familiarity with electronics test equipment including oscilloscopes, voltmeters, current meters and data acquisition hardware
  • Basic solder and solder rework skills needed
  • Communicate with engineers requesting work to ensure it is done according to their requirements
  • Advise requesting engineers as needed regarding test capability, additional information needed and estimated timing
  • Setup and run validation/verification tests on electronic devices using environmental chambers and/or pressure test equipment
  • Setup data acquisition hardware to collect monitoring data from electronic devices
  • Work with external local labs to complete environmental testing of electronic devices, including vibration, thermal shock, water intrusion, chemical tests, media compatibility and other tests per Cummins and industry standards
  • Provide data from validation/verification tests to the requesting engineers
  • Write test reports for completed tests. Document completed test results
  • Build and test wiring harness assemblies for testing various electronic components from 2 to 100+ pins
  • Order equipment, fixtures, outside testing and test setup/build components as needed using Ariba or Concur purchasing card
  • Setup, program and operate HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Test) chamber
  • Program and operate Temperature Cycle chambers for parametric and temperature cycle tests of electronic components
  • Complete connector force tests with Mark 10 connector tester
  • Practice 5S in the workplace (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain) and lead in 5S efforts in the lab
  • Maintain an organized and functional workspace
  • Support and document equipment needed for calibrations. Work with external and internal calibration labs to coordinate calibration activity
  • Travel is less than 5% per year, and on an as needed basis

  • Thermocouple installation experience
  • Surface mount component solder skills
  • J1939 CAN bus test skills
  • Calterm, LabVIEW and TestStand programming skills
  • Analysis/teardown of electronic devices to find failures or defects
